For whatever reason windows explorer started giving me huge hang-ups and freezes and it was just getting to be a huge pain to look for any files.
So i went looking for an alternative, found this:

its wonderful, I've been using it for about 2 months now without a single complaint, it never freezes or locks like explorer did on my machine (I assume it was some mistake I made that screwed windows explorer up . . but still)
Love the display style. Does everything explorer can do (if you need to create a new zipped folder or something else, you can go to "shell new" in the right click menu, where you will find all of those secondary options)
Good stuff. never bogs down. Highly recommended.
edit: there is a pay version too. The free version isn't a limited time demo or anything, it is a full featured program.
