Greeting fellow ATers!

Finally going from my beloved E6600 that I got at dual core launch to a Quad. What I am wondering is how much headroom will I have with a 6700 over a 6600 on the quads. With the dual cores the difference between the 6600 and 6700 were negligible and the cost savings drove me towards the 6600.

With heat the way it is with the quads is the higher multi gonna give me a much higher OC on the 6700?

If anyone has any reviews and OC tests bookmarked that could highlight the difference that would help as well. My googlefu seems weak today.

I think you'll find the same is true on the quads. With a 9X multiplier, a 400 fsb is 3.6 ghz, pretty close to the limit on air cooling. 10X doesn't get you any higher, and both chips are going to max out at about the same level.

Go with Q6600 (GO stepping) if you want to overclock.. All marketing stuffs. Q66x0, 67x0, and 68x0 are basically the same chip. You should be able to overclock the Q6600 to 3.0GHz with the stock CPU cooler.

9x vs 10x multi has negligible effect on heat output.

I have the Q6700 and I frankly feel that I wasted the money for the difference. I can get a stable overclock of 3800 on water at a vcore of 1.61 very little better than the results I see posted all over the forums for the Q6600.
I have no negatives about the chip - just that you get close to the same thing for about $300 less - go for the Q6600.
