Other animals don't drive cars with their backs slanted backward.

If I recall correctly the reason the Fusions headrests are like that is because they aren't active restraints so as a simple solution they angle them forward. Unfortunately it sacrifices comfort so hopefully the next gen will fix this.

The headrests in my seats are built in and it sort of worries me about their effectiveness given how far I have to go back just to rest against it. I sit fairly upright but the seats are at an angle.

Fair enough.

Another weird thing is how some seats have "lumbar support" which is basically a bar that gouges into your spine.
Solution: tilt the seat waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back

I don't understand how that lumbar support is supposed to help. Try this demonstration in your own home to see which is nicer. First, lay flat on your back on carpet or hard wood floor. That's what a regular bench seat from 20 years ago feels like. Next, put a 2x4 piece of wood under the small of your back and try to lay flat. That's "lumbar support" and it fucking hurts and nobody in the entire planet has a spine shaped like that. Why the hell would anyone want that in a car seat? Yet they all have it.

The lumbar support in my car is amazingly comfortable. It arches your back naturally and adds a lot of support that a flat seat doesnt have. A proper lumbar support should arch naturally the way your spine does and offer support to your back.

Back to headrests - I adjusted mine when I bought my car and have only used it a couple times when I decided to nap for a few minutes while waiting for the fiance. Other than if/when it is needed in an accident and occasional napping, pretty much worthless. I echo the comments from someone else about visibility though. I had a Chevy Impala rental a few months back and I wanted to get rid of the headrest because it blocked your blind-spot view horribly.

Yea so many people do not adjust them its ridiculous.

On G35 Driver someone even complained that they are dangerous because they broke or almost broke their neck on when they got rear ended.

More info later, the headrest was never positioned and was at its lowest setting, the head rest in the G are "Active" type they went forward a bit and his neck impacted them. Rather then their head I wonder why...

I guess being active is even more dangerous if not adjusted properly. Somewhat like a small child in the front seat without a seatbelt when the airbag pops out.

G35 coupe seats

I've never adjusted mine but I'm short and the lowest setting seems right for me. My head is never against the rest while I'm driving.

My mother has a Fusion and it has, by far, the worst front headrest position of any vehicle I've ever ridden in. I can't ride in the front seat for more than 15mins or so before I get a headache.

The current base Mustang headrest is pretty uncomfortable for me. I feel like a special needs person riding around with my crooked forward.
