I am looking to buy some decent sounding headphones. I am willing to pay up to 100 dollars, maybe more if one of you can convince me it's worth it =). I am asking for either a link to some site with lots of information, or testimony from owners of a good set. Thanks in advance.
 
I'll give my vote for sony mdr-7506s, mod them with beyerdynamics velour pads if you want 🙂 Those are closed phones, Grado makes some great open phones, see those sites above.

Open Air Cups- HD-580's $150 though.

Head over to Head-Fi.org and look around there. Best headphone site/forum on the web.

Beyerdynamics (another good headphone maker) makes these nice replacement pads that will fit nicely on the 7506s (also known as the V6). There's a nice thread about it on head-Fi I think, or one of those 3 forums listed. They're basically softer, higher quality.

grados are supposed to be real good value for the money, ie. they can't be beat. I, unfortunately cannot use open air headphones because I like keeping my music to myself, so I have some Sony V700s and MDR7509, both are decent headphones, and both keep your music yours. (If the record companies have a problem with music sharing they should outlaw open air headphones in public too ehehe, jk). I also hear good things about Sennheisers. Bah, don't listen to me, go to the head-fi forums, lots of flame wars though, especially over the headphones I own. It's all a matter of preference of course.

I use sennheizer HD-497's. They are kinda budget headphones and they are open ones. I got them for like $65 I wanna say from amazon a while back. They are plenty good for my music and gaming needs.

Better headphones can be had for the price of the V700.

Another vote for the Sennheiser HD497. Good headphones for a good price, I use it for gaming and listening to music on my computer while the Stax is reserved for the CD player.

I dunno dude, when it comes to power capacity, and the swivel ears...they kick ass.

All I know is Louie Devito uses them. Good enough for me.
 
if i had 100$ id probably get Grado SR-80

or Sony D66-L if you want more "closed" sounding headphones

or Grado SR-60 and try to buy or build a pocket amplifier

or you if you want really cheap buy Koss PortaPro for phones or KSC-35 for clips

Yup, not many headphones can put out as much power as the 700s 🙂 Also their pretty durable...look cool in silver...and are great for djing 🙂
 
Cool guys, that was great. I think I am going to buy the sony V700's, I want to keep my music to myself, have deep base, and cool looks to boot. Any others I should think of since I am willing to pay a bit over a hundred?
