So I'm going to be getting a iPod, and I want to get some low-profile (not big and clunky), yet great sounding headphones/in-ear phones. Right now I'm thinking maybe something from Sennhieser. Any suggestions? throw them my way.

-Thanks

Budget - Somewhere around $100
Music - rock/alternative/rap/techno
Type - in-ear OR headphones, either could work

I own Sennheiser CX300. I am happy with everything except for the strange cable. One cord is much longer than the other once they get past the divider. Horrible design as far as the cable goes, IMO, but otherwise good headphones.

<$100

open headphones that don't isolate and leak some sound
koss ksc75
koss porta pro
sennheiser px100
sennheiser eh350
grado sr60/80 & alessandro ms-1 (might be too big and clunky for you)
audio technica ad700 (big and clunky)

for closed cans
denon d1000
equation rp-21
audio technica es7
audio technica a700
akg k81dj

canalphones/iems
jvc marshmallows
creative ep630/sennheiser cx300 (bass oriented imho)
jbl reference 220 (bass oriented, but better bass than the creative/sennheiser imho)
ultimate ears super.fi 3
altec lansing im716/etymotic er6 (probably too bass light for your listening habits)
denon c700 (these have been highly recommended over at head-fi recently, but the $99 sale price is gone for now)

feel free to visit head-fi.org for more info, but it'll probably be information overload and too much stuff to read. lol

the best values imo are the koss ksc75 and jvc marshmallows which both can be had for <$20 usually.

Sennheiser PX-100.

Might be too clunky, but the Sennhesier HD-555 sound very synergistic with my dad's first generation iPod Nano.

Thanks a lot for listing out all of those, well I've made up my mind about going with an in-ear style headphone.

I'm mostly looking at the creative ep630 and sennheiser cx300 as you mentioned above. Would you say those are two solid choices to choose from?

personally i prefer the jbl reference 220's over the ep630/cx300, the 220's are more detailed and less muddy to me, but either of them should be fine if you want boomy bass. be warned that there are many counterfeits of these three models. so be careful purchasing them off ebay or shady stores.

guide to fake cx300's
ones that come in oem bags are pretty much guaranteed fake while there are some fakes that come in retail looking packaging as well.

Dude, Are you using them correctly, Disregard my comment if you are. The longer cord is suppose to go behind your neck, that is why it is Longer.

I've seen many n00bers wearing both earbuds in front of them, "Hilarious" cuz they seem to think that perhaps they were just cut wrong. LOL

Count me in as another those "noobs". Thanks for the tip. (I still think it's a bad design, but at least I now understand why).

I have tried that before, but my backpack tends to yank them out of my ears when I run them behind me.

Your backpack? Is it one of those messenger bags, or is it the regular backpack.

BTW uhohs, I've also been looking for new earbuds. I don't like the kind that sounds like a stethoscope when the cord is rubbed on. And I want Good bass. Willing to spend up to 60 dollars. "last paycheck" hehe.

The Marshmallows are GREAT for rap and cover all the lower end frequencies great, BUT the higher end is veiled, which is great for sources with harsh highs but you will grow to miss those harsh highs if you come from Grados. For bass heads they are CHEAP and have LOW bass and plenty of it.

Shure discontinued their E2Cs. The replacement model is the Shure SE110. I bought the SE110 and they are great although lack in bass response. I hear the higher models, the SE210 and the SE310 and above have great bass response.

I have the same prob, I just wear mine with the cables in front. They sound great IMO. I paid a lot less than what they go for now. Seems like the prices have gone up for these.

A week or two ago Dell had Creative EP630s for $12 non-shipped. I picked up a couple of them. They're supposed to sound almost exactly the same as CX300s (reputed to have the same drivers, but I don't know if any further identification has been done since I last paid attention, like mid-2007). They're really great for the price. I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer them to my Marshmallows, because they're more comfortable and have more detail. The bass can be a little heavy at times, but in a portable scenario, they're perfect. I almost prefer them to my iM716s because they're easier to carry and take in and out of my ear. They're also a lot cheaper, too.

This is a good list. I recently got a 3g nano as a present so I've been looking hard for a pair of big headphones (pref over ear but on ear could work). I realize they are going to eat the battery life of the nano but I really don't like in ear phones.

Other than sound quality and price, comfort is important to me. A lot of the AKG headphones look super comfortable (at a steep price). Is there any place to actually try headphones on before buying?

I need to buy these in the next week or so too.
