Headphones on HDTV

Hi guys,

I asked this question a while back, but unfortunately got tied up and never found a perfect answer. Here's the scoop:

My parents have a Panasonic TC-P42C2 720p Plasma in their bedroom that I bought them about a year ago. They're very pleased with it, but my father wants to be able to use headphones so he doesn't bother my mom while she's sleeping. Unfortunately, it looks like the TV itself only has a separate digital audio out (optical, I think). Here are the specs (look for audio output): http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-...-P42C2.S_11002_7000000000000005702#tabsection.

The cable box they're using is fairly old. Currently the TV is connected via coax (no HDMI on the box, trying to get them to upgrade it), and I can't find any settings in the cable box's menu to allow a separate audio output.

Anyway, I was thinking of buying them something like this, plus a Toslink or coaxial SPDIF cable (whatever the TV supports). Will this work for their needs? http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Analog.../dp/B0038HX3S8

Thanks. 🙂

The digital audio out on most TV's only works with the TV's internal tuner, so it won't work if they are using a cable box. You would need to connect this device to the cable box itself. The specs say "Digital to Analog Audio Converter with USB and Headphone Amplifier" which seems to be what you are looking for.
