Hi all,

I'm buying an electric violin with passive pickups. Is it possible to use headphones with the violin directly and have some sort of "mini amp" (just enough to make the headphones work well) in between? Or will that not work?

You could, but I believe that the output is mono so you either only get sound from the left or right channel.

I don't imagine the passive pickups would generate a signal strong enough to drive headphones to a decent level, I could be wrong though. You'd probably need some small headphone amp.

There are plenty of small battery-powered guitar-oriented amps with headphone outs that would probably work fine for practice.
