I am going to be playing through a vga cable, no speakers, I was wondering if a pair of sennheiser hd-555's would work or should I get the Tritton TRIGA600 headset? Thanks for advice.

If he doesn't have one he's going to need one or a headphone amp since the audio output that comes out of the VGA adapter is unamplified.

No, I don't have either of those things. I'm open to either a receiver or headphone amp, probably an amp though. I've been to head-fi and browsed, there's no way in hell I am going to drop the kind of paper those guys are spending on headphone amps. Is a cheap amp worth it?

the Triton are bomb, i had a pair till they got "smashed" by a move.

Their 100x better then those cheap turtle beach x2/x3s or whatever their called.

edit: also a bonus, you can use your Triton for movie watching or also a quality headset for the pc.

i have a pair of turtle beach X4's and im pretty happy. the sound quality on COD4 is incredible.

and to the poster who said turtle beach is cheap. the triton is $100 and the turtle beach is $200

but tbh i would have prefered a proper decent pair of 5.1 headphones but they only seem to be made for the japanese

HD555s are pretty good for gaming. I'd also recommend checking out Audio-Technicas.

Not sure what price you're aiming for, but the Mini3 from Rockhopper Audio is supposed to be pretty good. A CMoy wouldn't be too difficult to put together, or you can buy one of the pre-made ones on eBay (just check to make sure they're reputable, Head-Fi should help there).
