headphones/earphones and health

can somebody tell me how to protect against the effects of using headphones (or earphones 😕 ). i'm talking about the bacteria (heard something about bacteria increasing 3000-fold when using headphones) and obviously the hearing damage.
would these be better than these?

my logic is that since you don't stick the 'em in your years the former ones are better (reducing bacteria as well as imroving sound q) but what about the hearing damage? and are there gizmos that can give you the decibel level of the sound you are listening to. i heard that below 80dB is ok.
so anyone who knows about this stuff or has better googling skills please educate/direct me 🙂.

have you ever heard of anybody catching ANYTHING from ear/headphones?

No, thought not.

So just buy some, use them, and stop being a pussy 🙂

That's my 2c anyway...

Germ freak much? 😕

Live dangerously and give some in ear buds a shot. If you die report back to us. Hearing damage is avoidable by listening to music at reasonable volumes.

If you're a slob and wear them all the time, I could see there being a problem.

If you actually wash your ears and don't wear them constantly, then you're just being paranoid.

ok no need for insults, it's an online forum, everyone can act macho.
i will try to paraphrase my post:
1: do you know any facts about using headphones
2: could you give a recommendation
3: are there gizmos that can mesure decibel levels and if no, do you know why (technical problems, expense ....)

2.sennheiser make awesome ones, i have a very nice set of fat Sonys i'd recommend
3.Thats just plain silly-set it to a comfortable volume for you, and you should be fine.

happier?

...pussy 🙂

You've obviously never went down on a hooker.
Trust me, one night of eatin rented pie, and the germs in headphones seem like some new anti-earwax treatment.

Actually I believe when you wear headphones bacteria growth increases in your ear 200% or something.

i've no reason to doubt that without knowing the facts, but it doesnt mean diddly squat if they aren't harmful, seriously, show me the 'heapdhones gave me ........ ear problems' headline? I've never even heard it as an 'urban legend' 😛

EDIT: its a wrong forum post as well

I use earbuds for my mp3 player and headphones for my computer. The earbuds generally do very well with expressing the entire audible spectrum, they can produce lows a little better than the headphones. However, external sounds make it through to the ears more with the earbuds because there's no full enclosure.

I've never noticed any bacterial side-effects from the phones/buds, or any extra earwax build-up.

Are you the only one using the earbuds? I don't think you'd have problems with them as they stay pretty dry. I seem to sweat with some headphones, which might create a better breading ground from bacteria.

Lol post this at head-fi.com and you'll get even more laughs. Dude bacteria is not the issue here...😉. Seriously I don't think bacteria is a problem, and yes you can get devices to measure the decibles of your headphone's output. Just listen at a reasonable volume and you'll be fine. What kind of music do you listen to? What other uses? Portable or nonportable? That will be a big factor in what kind of heaphones you should get.
