Headphones and FPS

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could help me with a purchase.
I'm looking for a pair of headphones to use with FPS games and I have US$100 or less to spend. Sound quality isn't the number 1 priority, but I need to be able to tell where people are, and from where I am being shot. A microphone would be nice, but it's not necessary.
I have NForce integrated sound (with Dolby Digital whatever) and a SPDIF out (as well as the standard speaker port).
Any help would be appreciated.

And yes, I already did a search on the forum. 😉

Sony Mdr-v6 should be the perfect hp you are looking for! It has better "surround" than the grados and more bass <--what i heard from audiophile forums...

Just do a search at head-wize.com or other headphone forums..

I love my Sony headphones.. I tried Sennheiser and ended up trading them in for the Sony's.. they sound great, and will certainly do the job for you.

Mine are the model MDR-CD380. they were $100 CAD and I do not regret the purchase..

You didn't search hard enough, i still see many threads under current and archived GH and Off Topic.

I'm using the Plantronics .Audio 90's for everything from DVD's to gaming and love them.

No, AFAIK there are no headphones on the market that include built-in DACs. The Sony headphones' packaging is a little misleading in saying that it's for digital. It hooks up to the analog jacks just as all other headphones. They're just very accurate cans for "studio monitoring" and provide a very precise sound for digital (electronic) music.

That said, I will give another vote for the MDR-V6 headphones. For the money, you can't beat them for use with games, bass-heavy music, or DVDs. They are of closed design, so the sound will not leak out, and it will isolate from ambient sound. My friend has a pair of 10 year old V6s and they sound as good as my newer ones. The earpads looked totally beat up, but they were easily replaced and I suggested the Beyerdynamic DT-250 velour earpads which provide more comfort, better isolation, and better durability than the stock pleather pads. This is a great combination, and the V6s together with the velour earpads are just shy of $100 shipped.

Well when you see the SAME EXACT THREAD EVERY SINGLE WEEK, you start wonder.

Thanks for your help guys, I'm looking into the Sony Mdr-v6 right now.

Edit: I don't suppose anyone knows a place that ships these internationally? I'm in Australia.
