Headphone wire stripped

Usually when I see that, it means the wires themselves are likely stressed or damaged. Might be better off chopping it and putting a new connector on.

This is exactly why i recomended heatshrink, as it will offer strain relief of the connection which is likely already stressed. But as long as they still work then the connection is still good, so heatshrink it and call it a day.

Then I'd be compromising the connection by jamming it back in, the rubber part actually just slid off whcih you cant slide back on

Heatshrink looks like the best way... the better long term solution after that is a new connector agreed..

no you are not compromising the connection, it was in there before it separated 😛
