Headphone & Speakers Question

Not sure where to post this but I have a quick question.
How come I can't leave my headphone & speaker connected on my computer? I have like 5 audio connector on the back of my motherboard (Gigabyte P35-DS3L) and if I want to use my headphone, i have to disconnect the speakers connected to it.

What is your sound card? upper level audigy cards, for example, have the ability to toggle on/off the headphone bypass feature.

whatever sound card that's built on the motherboard...i don't have an aftermarket sound card.
