headphone question w/ poll

I mow several laws a week, and I think I am stating to loose my hearing... In the past I have used reg. cheap headphones and just cranked the volume so I could hear it above my 13HP Commercial Lawn Mower... bad idea! So I go a pair of Phillips behind the head noise cancelling thingies and they were great until the chip went out. I originally bought them for $20 but are now retailing over $50 and I dont think they are worth the money. So I am debating whether or not to get a set of noise cancelling joes (like the Bose) or go for canalphones (like the shure E3c). Whihc ones tend to be better at cancelling something as loud as a lawn mower? Sound quality is not paraount, as I listen through my PocketPC, but good sound quality is nice too. Thanks in advance all!

i have e2c love um. really depends if you can handle all the idolation and where your going to be using it. like home/around.

I would use earbuds/canals and a pair of good earmuffs (like you see on gun ranges).

You should NOT be mowing without ear protection.

Viper GTS

get the canalphones

the bose headphones sound horrible...the noise cancelling causes a lot of sound distortion

MUCH better and cheaper idea.
Plus, it will actually work.

get the sennheiser 212's they're closed so they block noise, they're cheap, and they sound decent.

My Sennheiser HD280pros make a very nice seal with my head. They cut down noise a lot.

Newegg has them but that's not a good price. There's a hot deal on them once in a while. I got mine for $60.

Sounds great (no pun intended;-)), but I dont think these will block out enough sound

They about as well as the earmuff style noise protection things I wear at work during the summer.

I was shocked at how much sound they blocked out.

If you can find a specialty store in your area that has them, go and check them out.

Just bought the Shure E3c's through the Anandtech forums for $115 brand new! Got hem today, and they are a-freakin-mazing! ;-)

Personaly I like the rumble of the lawn mower, it over powers any other noise and leaves you in a world where only you and the lawn mower exist.

well, that is true, a 13.5 HP Commercial mower is about as loud as a Cessna on take off... and for a couple hours a day, its not so much of a great sounding world ;-)
