Well I am going to be getting a new monitor soon and with the old monitor I am using now, it has a headphone and microphone jack built-in. I plug my headset part of my microphone into here. For my 5.1 speaker set-up, there is a little audio control thing that comes out of the subwoofer and I can put it on my desk. This is where I plug in the headphone part of my headset. It has a volume control and a bass control. When I get the new monitor I will have nowhere to plug in my microphone on my desk and I will have to crawl under my desk and plug it into the computer itself. I don't want to do that as I switch betweens my headset and speakers quite often.

Is there anything out there that I can buy that is similar to the thing that came with my 5.1 set-up that I can plug my microphone into?

You could get a mic extension cord. Radio Shack and most big box stores like Circuit City, CompUSA, Walmart, etc. carry them. Look at the plug on your mic. If it is the same as the one on a pair of stereo headphones, then a headphone extension, or stereo line-in extension would probably work. Basically it's a 1/8", 3 circuit jack to a 1/8", 3 circuit plug.
