I ran a few searches, and it seems like there's a new headphone thread every week. My appologies for adding another one, but my needs are rather specific, and I'd like to be absolutely sure I'm getting decent cans before shelling out my money.

Basically, I want headphones that block outside noises without forcing me to turn my sound up to obscene volumes. Right now I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser HD-212's because of their closed design and reasonable price, but I wouldn't be opposed to spending more money for added sound quality, comfort, and, of course, outside noise reduction.

Suggestions?

If you have no problems with using earbuds. I would absolutely recommend
the Etymotics er-4s. Fabulous isolation as well as great sound quality. Shure
e5 series are also great. Although I prefer the er-4s.

I've never been happy with earbuds, which is why I'm looking at obnoxiously huge, sealed headphones.

well i have some Grado SR-80s they are sweet

they however arnt noise canceling and they arnt closed

they ar open design but you really cant hear any outside noise when you have them on. but people can hear teh music when you have it really loud.

no depending on where you want to use these they will be just as good as any others + the sound qual of teh Grados is better then teh senns IMO

i just remember reading reviews that the panasonic noise reduction model is superior to the sony, it doesn't emit a hiss. that being said i haven't tried either:p bose makes one, but at bose prices.
