Heading to Strasbourg, France, for November!

Excellent, I was picked up for the Language Area Studies Immersion program through the Air Force and am headed to France for four weeks of language immersion to kick start my language ability (particularly listening and speaking), all thanks to YOU, American taxpayer. 😀

Anyone have any experiences or advice for Strasbourg in particular? I was in Grenoble for a year and have visited Paris extensively, but I've never been to Alsace.

I hope it cooled off already, or will cool off by November.

It should be plenty cool/cold by the time November rolls around since it's right next to Germany -- not known for balmy summers. It should be interesting because where I live now, the temperature doesn't drop below 50 F in the winter.

My school had an exhange with Strasborg last year (maybe it's the same school you will be working with🙂). My sis went on it (I went to one in Spain). She seemed to enjoy it alot. The people were nice there, and patient with her French.

Because they are so close to the German border, they are somewhat culturally tied to Germany as well a France, and you will definitely notice a few differences in the culture. Also, 3 languages are spoken there: French, German, and Alsacian. Alsacian is basically French with enough German in it so that neither the French nor the Germans can understand them. They will always speak to you in French, though, so don't worry about learning the other two. 🙂

EDIT:Yes, they do have VERY good wine there. 😀

I am not working through a school -- this is a US Air Force program, though perhaps the tutors come from the university. I aim to try the local cuisine, including the wine and cheese, as much as I can without too much damage to my waistline! It should be a great time and a welcome break from Japan.
