The fam is on vacation this weekend (friday to Tuesday i think). Were thinking about going to Phoenix and they wanted me to check out cool things to do/places to stay. I'm gonna google around but anyone have any good ideas or know good places to go/stay?

I would love to see the Suns play the Lakers on Friday but no idea if tickets are even acquirable. Ticketmaster is down atm so I dunno. Would Nash or Kobe even play this close to the end of the reg season?

That's my only idea for now. Gonna google Phoenix stuff tomorrow. Some help would be nice though.

No idea about sporting events. There's also no shortage of hotels, do you have a budget or a specific location in Phoenix you want to be near? Phoenix is a really big city, and very sprawled out.

What do you like to do? There are bars and strip clubs a plenty in Phoenix. :p

No budget in mind, just something reasonable I guess. Were going there from Tucson so It's not exactly a big change. Come to think of it, I want to go somewhere cooler...I better try and argue this plan.

Just incase we end up going there, which we probably will. It would be nice to have some fun things to do and/or cool places to stay (rather than a boring hotel).

I'm going to Phoenix two weeks from now.

I've been putting it off because my sister and borther-in-law put in a pool and hot tub over the winter. My sister is a big girl to begin with and now she's seven months pregnant. My brother-in-law has been described as having hair on every square inch of his body except his head. I keep thinking of them trying to force me into their hot tub and I throw up in my mouth a little.

So, I invite you to visit my sister and brother-in-law for me this weekend. Scout out the situation and tell me if I should forget about the trip next week.

Thanks!

I think I'll pass on that. I'm still thinking I'd really like to see Nash and Kobe play though. Any idea of either will be playing on Friday? Are they both sitting out until the playoffs? I ain't got a clue. Still some tickets available for this friday.

Any info would be great, thanks.

I haven't heard anything about Nash sitting out any games. He might not play that much,.. say in the 4th q, but he should start.

and with the Spurs still only a few games behind them,....

If you're looking for tickets you can try the Phoenix Suns Ticket Exchange web site.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about the weather. Friday it's gonna be sunny 76/55.
Sounds great to me.

Try your best to get tickets to that Suns/Lakers game on Friday if you're that interested (I know I would be). Plus, It's going to be Nash's last head-to-head with another MVP candidate in the regular season, and he's out-shined Kobe and Dirk the last 3 times they played, so it should be a great environment.

Wha?! Tucson and Phoenix are like night and day different. That's like someone saying they're visiting Gary, IN, and you saying, "Don't go to Chicago. It's not even that far from Gary." There is NOTHING to do in Tucson. Except for the U of A, there is NOTHING there. It's a s***hole. Now, I can't say I love Phoenix (I'm dying to move soon), but it has everything a major city can offer. It's the 5th largest city in the US. And you're saying it's just as good as Tucson?

Dude, what he's saying is that a trip that is only 1.5 hrs doesn't have to be the trip of a lifetime. As for Lakers-Suns tickets, personally I'm always a big fan of dickering with the scalpers right before gametime, but most people probably don't like the lack of assurance on tickets. Make sure you don't buy an eticket.

As for what to do in Phoenix, personally I like hiking the various mountains around the city, there's a pretty cool view from Squaw Peak and its not too rough of a hike. Also if you are driving you can go to the Biodome thing in Oracle, hit up the bars in Scottsdale, etc

Tucson is vastly superior...there really is no comparison.

Phoenix is L.A. wannabe, and little else...why bother?

edit: well there is Taliesin West, but that's really Scottsdale/Paradise Valley.

I agree, I'm not a fan of Phoenix. But if I had to choose between it and Tucson, I would choose Phoenix. Greater selection of restaurants, bars, and clubs. (What does Tucson have - Red Lobster?) More movie theaters. More malls. Major sports teams. Scottsdale. Mill Ave in Tempe. As much as I hate it here, I'll admit there's more to do than Tucson.

And I misread the OP. I thought he was visiting Tucson, and coming to Phoenix for a day. Yeah, if you live in Tucson, you should be going to Phoenix monthly.

I was in Scottsdale last week for a conference, so from a visiting point of view, I would suggest making the drive to Scottsdale. There's tons of restaurants and a decent mall on Scottsdale Blvd. I believe it was called Fashion Center or something like that. But some nice places and if the weather is nice, there are some restaurants with outdoor lounge areas. I pretty much spent every night heading to that area...I ate at Stingray (nice vibe for Japanese and they show loops of the variety show with ppl doing stunts)...Olive and Ivy (has a nice outdoor lounge area w/ fire pits)...there was more, but those two are the ones I enjoyed.

Or you can go where my conference was being held at the Ft. McDowell resort/casino and visit their Bingo parlor. IT WAS HUGE! I couldn't believe what I saw...hundreds of people (and that's just the non-smoking room). Larger than the Casino itself, and I swear you had to be CPR certified to enter the room...i felt like someone was going to croak or have a heart attack the minute someone yelled Bingo! (In all honestly, it was quite depressing and I felt like I was in the Twilight zone...even the person announcing B2 sounded like he alread died).

I never implied it was going to be the tip of a lifetime.

So no plans yet for Kobe or Nash to sit out? I can't find anything. Tickets starts at $90 so I better damn well get my moneys worth :p - I would like to see Nash and Kobe play for at least 2 quarters each.
