I'm heading out to NO with a buddy of mine in August and we'll be staying on Canal Street. Anyone got any suggestions on what to check out, what bars to visit, what to do? Too bad Mardi Gras isn't happening, but I'm sure there's still plenty to do.

Also, should we even bother renting a car?

everything you need is within walking distance...and if further, just take the shuttle/trolley thing they've got set up. you'll have a blast. try all the different bars...be sure to find the giant grenade and have one of those too!

Driving in NOLA sucks. Be careful of it.
Go to Cafe Du Monde
Go to Mother's and get a poboy
Jazzland (an amusement park) is to the east towards Slidell.
Try a praline
Don't drive on Bourbon street
Visit the Aquarium of the Americas

The one I am thinking of is Harrah's.

There is a Harrah's, and if I remember correctly a Riverboat casino but I think that was a 15-20 minute drive away from downtown.

Never been there, but lots of water the day after helps a lot. :)

Just figured I tell you now.
