..for a week...to do stuff. Never been. Should be good times. :awe:

Post things I should do while there. Preferably involving alcohol and churches. Two great things that go great together...well and hookers. Preferably ones with most of their teeth but that is negotiable. I know we plan on hitting haunted houses and the parade of people acting like deviants in the streets in the name of some guy called Sam Hain, whoever that is. Everything else is up in the air.

/end blog. :hmm:

I honestly drank for 3 days straight on Bourbon. It was fun. But 3 was enough. Wish I had more time to do other stuff while I had been there.

We had fun on the Bloody Mary cemetery tour. She's a crazy lady, but it adds to the fun.
Bourbon street is fun...once (unless you're a trashy raging drunk or college student).
After that, stick to the blues bars off Bourbon St for more authentic fun time.

I highly recommend seeing parts of the city other than the Bourbon Street area. Keep in mind it is ok to drink in public, just not glass bottles.

If you are craft beer person, check out Avenue Pub. If you are staying close to Canal, there's a trolley that you can get you to the Garden District. NOLA Brewery isn't too far from there as well. They have a pretty nice tap room.

If you are there on a Saturday or Sunday check out the French Market. There may be vendors there during the week.

There is so much good food. Some of it can be pricey in the French Quarter area. One cheap place we found was Cafe Masperos. It's all fried, but pretty good pricing for that area of town.

Was there with a few buddies ~3 years ago? for the week of Mardi Gras... which also happened to be the week of my Birthday that year. GREAT times. If you like music and drinking, you found the right spot. I would highly recommend the bar "Famous Door" on Bourbon. Great drink deals, two bars inside so it's not so crowded getting drinks, fantastic bands all day long. They had a three piece band there that was incredible. Spent many hours here during the week I was there. Another good stop for you (if you're into Karaoke bars) is 'Cat's Meow' on Bourbon street as well. This place gets sloppy as all hell, but it's a blast. If you don't karaoke, you should do it here. YOLO? Two floors of goodness. Second floor has balcony as well - free of charge. No glass allowed outside, but they'll give you giant plastic cups to pour your drinks into (that you can keep). Don't go out on the balcony unless you're making out with a chick or screaming "SHOW ME YOUR TITS!!!" from above. Else.. stay inside and drink more.

Aside from the mess of Bourbon St, the French Quarter is amazing. Lots of things to see -- Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde (stop in for Beignets and coffee), Central Grocery (MUST STOP FOR MUFFALETTA!!!), Flea Market, shopping, etc. If you're into photography, the buildings/apartments in this area are very cool and picture worthy. The food is amazing - creole, jambalaya, po'boys, crawfish, etc. You really can't go wrong. Also, take a walk on the river (I believe it's called the River Walk -- very original) ... but there's usually stuff happening on the grass by the water - food trucks, music, etc. Lots of street performers, painters, entertainment all over the place down there. Also remember, you can walk around with booze! :D

Other notable ideas: Ghost Tours, WW2 Museum, Casino

Whatever you do, you'll have a blast.

Have been several times myself, always had fun. Tried getting the wife to even consider moving there once but she wasn't keen on the idea.

Another placed I loved eating at was Tujaque's.

Excellent food, and has a lot of history itself.

You're a music guy... of course you had fun. Clearwater isn't a bad alternative. I wasn't far from you in St. Pete Beach for a wedding @ Trade Winds back in July..... that was fun too.

Hand Grenade was absolutely disgusting, but when in Rome I suppose...

Pat O'Briens was nice. Forgot about that one. Sitting inside looking up at the stars drinking a hurricane was good.

Also: Preservation Hall for traditional NOLA Jazz.

Le Bayou. Hopefully Doc is still there and he is your waiter.

It's a restaurant.

was there a couple of weeks ago. awesome place for great food. some good recommendations already. some things that were on our itinerary and we actually got most done.

French quarters has cafe du monde (beignets and chicory coffee).
Jackson square
French market. bourbon street gets crazy. definitely try the huge drinks they have.

Frenchmen street - check out a free jazz show. Spotted cat, maison bourbon, and bacchanal wine are 3 popular places.

Canal street - window shopping; take the trolley to garden district. Palace cafe for their alligator cheesecake (might still be renovating)

garden district - walking tour; cemetary (PWYW with free tours by foot)

food/drink places
Central Market - muffuletta sandwich. It's this really good bread with prosciutto and olives. Tastes amazing and I hate olives.
Pat O's - hurricanes
The Court of Two Sisters - didn't go but the courtyard area looks nice at night
Napoleon House - Sazeracs
Chargrilled Oysters - Acme, Drago, felix, Bourbon house
Dat Dog - awesome hotdogs. Try the Crawfish Etouffe dog
Commanders Palace - $.25 martinis during lunch. Reservations only. Get the turtle soup and bread pudding.
Wille Maes Scotch House - soul food
Verti Marte - Get the all that jazz poboy. Amazing sandwich!
Croissant D'Or Patisserie - really good croissants
La fitte blacksmith bar - dive bar

other stuff
swamp tour - they'll pick you up at your hotel for a little extra. we did cajun encounters for the regular boat or do an airboat with another company.
ghost tour
saints game
mint
aquarium/zoo
katrina museum

Another great place I forgot to mention for food is Cajun Mikes (across Canal St for you). It's a complete dive bar, but the food was very good. Their Boudin Balls will take 3 years off your life, but going to New Orleans you should have already planned on that. The Po'boys here were the best I had while visiting as well.

A week in New Orleans is a really really long time. It's mostly bars and restaurants and while you can easily eat and drink constantly without running out of new places to go, that's the major extant of the tourism. Maybe take a swamp tour or a tour of fake haunted houses.

have an awesome trip!

First time in Nola, I went with friend and we spent every evening/night on bourbon street bars.

Second time in Nola, went with my woman, and we pretty much hung out near the Jackson Park area and went to various restaurants. Also we both loved the place "croissant d'ior" had some killer sandwiches and coffee there. http://www.croissantdornola.com/

Of course if you havent been there already you need to hit mainstays like Cafe Du Monde and Lafitte's blacksmith shop bar ...

Take the Trolly, walk the riverwalk (go during the day, at night, there will be all the potheads ,hippies, acid trippers, mushroom folks, and all the other interesting people that come out at night, so if you go in the evening be carefull!)

Ive always wanted to check out the WW2 museum there, but never seemed to fit it in the clock....

Here is a picture I took of the morning after Mardi Gras. I was of course hungover as all hell, but on vacation you have to deal with it... especially in NOLA! It was safe to say I was doing better than at least 1 person, maybe 2:

After dark you might want to watch were you venture to, no this isn't Disneyland.
