For instance, will the Sony Z5 be available over there with US bands?

depends if the z5 compact premium shows up... or z5 premium (E6853 or dual sim E6833/E6883)

otherwise, it'll just be the regular announced Z5 (E6603/E6653 or dual sim E6633/E6683) and Z5 Compact (E5803/E5823)

Not sure about smartphones unless you're into clamshell design which just never get imported over here.

But japan is a great place to try out and find rarer headphones.
