I've never heard that term before. I walk by one on Granville on the way to and from work every day. I assume they just sell pipes and lighters? Never bothered to go in.

Funny that I live in downtown Vancouver and I have no idea where you would go to buy pot. Do people just buy off guys on the street? I always just happened to know people that had it, but I never asked where it came from; left to my own devices I would never know where to go to find the stuff.

Me too but I think it's pretty common knowledge how it works no? You get it from a friend who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who buys it off someone down on East Hastings. Or they grow it themselves. My cousin showed my a pic of a crop she grew with her then BF. Doesn't everyone know someone or knows someone who knows someone who is a dope head?

Heh, yeah, fair enough. I used to work with a guy that had a miniature grow-op in his closet. Some of us were over at his house watching a game and he just opened the closet and showed off his plants. I was surprised because I would not have pegged him for a smoker, but whatever floats his boat, I don't care.

Every tobacco store in California ive gone in sold glass pipes and bongs of all shapes and sizes from small ones to six foot tall ones without any obvious signs that say for tobacco use only. Once a vial of medical marijuana with about a gram inside was on the counter when i was buying some e cig carts.

Pretty good in Connecticut which is a shock considering how puritanical this state is on most things. As long as a product has a legit and legal purpose it's not classified as drug paraphernalia and hence it's legal to sell. So there's no shortage of head shops selling bongs and pipes and pretty much anything else under the sun. When I was at the smoking age you could walk into any convenience store at 1am and pick up a pack of Jokers. Some even sold more advanced stuff. There were places you could buy a lottery ticket, a gallon of milk, a candy bar and a bong.

I do mean that.

Berkeley, specifically; which is a "small" college town.

It has it's own laws. vastly different from SF. preposterously different from the rest of country. It's an experiment in public and legislative insanity.

I didn't realize that the term Bay area encompassed such a large geographic extend. I always thought it just meant the area immediately surrounding the bay in SF city.

hell i didn't know what the fuck a head shop was. it was in a strip mall near the comic book shop i go to.

oh man i was amazed that they sold bongs! WTF! though i wondered where people got them..

needless to say it was a eye opener.

oh, it's quite massive. There are many other regional descriptions within the entire Bay Area--Peninsula, East Bay, South Bay, North Bay, Silicon Valley, of course...
It's very highly developed, urbanized, suburbanized, it just keeps on going.

Technically, Napa and Sonoma are considered Bay Area even though they are well inland.

Most people that smoke on semi regular basis know people personally. I've never bought pot off some random on a street. I'm putting it in my body and I want to know where it came from, and trust the person who sells it.

But where do they get it from?

Wow I know Silicon Valley isn't near what I would think of as the Bay area. And I know the Napa Valley is inland a ways, so I would never have thought those would be even technically close to the "bay area".

They grow it, or know the grower. Most people I know are never more than about 3 degrees of separation from their grower.

Hmm. That's probably true here too then, especially considering we are pot city. Like I was saying I've yet to try it and don't know anything about the 'economy'.

My only real problem with head shops is every one of them is decorated like a phish concert exploded in there. Have I mentioned how much I hate pot culture before. I think I have. It feels me with incalculable rage. I should clarify I like pot. I just hate the culture holy hell do I.

/same here.

Commercials for these shops typically appear late at night and mainly on the local public access TV channel.

Interesting conversation I overheard today about how Marijuana became "illegal" back in 1937 [this had somehow spawned from talking about traveling to Israel and when you should go to the strip clubs - lol].

Conversations on pot are pretty interesting they lower your inhibitions enough so your brain mouth filter is dampened, but everyone's mellow enough to not fly into a rage fit if you end up in a disagreement.

Come to Denver CO.. especially on Federal Blvd and on Colfax ave, I live 1 block off Colfax and am near 2 head shops and within 5 blocks of 5 "medical" marijuana shops. I put that in quotes cause by law just about anyone qualifies for it.

Also I was in Amsterdam last September, I've seen more weed available here than I did there.. and I was in Vancouver and Victoria the September before and hardly saw any availability there either.
