My new boss (I'm a web manager) whispered "what's dreamweaver?" when I mentioned throwing a mockup together using dreamweaver for a site we'd like to launch...

How should I feel about that?

You should feel outraged and proceed by drawing your sword and thrusting it into his heart.

He/she was serious?

Not that anyone needs to use Dreamweaver, but it's been around long enough and it's well known enough that even people not in that field (like me) know what it is.

Tell him to stick with MS Word for web design then.

He's your boss. He should know how to lead and tell you what to do, not know the technical details.

Good. Dreamweaver is not a web development tool, it is a childrens' toy for playing with HTML layouts. I have never used it on a project over which I had any sort of control and I would love to forget that it even exists. Seems your boss has already taken this important step.

I vaguely remember it from back in the day, but I've been in development for years and wouldnt fault anyone for not knowing what it is. Maybe I've just become accustomed to working with professional html and css designers.

In short, you are a douche.

ps. With all due respect of course.

Manual coding for the win?

he is a manager, you are a do'er.

Notepad > Dreamweaver!

all of these. ive used dw for all kinds of things, like scripting i dont want to do on my own and such. for the most part, ill use a text editor for all my coding, but dreamweaver is sometimes more convenient. i wouldnt go so far as to call it a childrens toy or anything tho. him not knowing it may just mean he used other softs or is a true "administrator" that is great at directing, but not really at "doing"

bah, i use notepad, who needs dreamweaver anyway

bosses don't have to know anything , as long as they let you do your job
once they stop letting you do your job, then it matters

Web development != web design

Though I'm kind of surprised that anyone who is in IT would not know what Dreamweaver is. That doesn't indicate that he doesn't know how to do his job, but it does indicate that he probably doesn't read much about the field he works in.

Notepad is for suckers who don't know the advantages of a full-featured text editor.

Most "full-featured" text editors are also for suckers who don't know the advantages of a real full-featured text editor.
