Head light regulation

Why aren't there tighter headlight regulation in place? My last 4 cars were all regular height sedan/hatch back, I got laser beamed to dead everyday and it got worst and worst every year from those super white HID and LEDs SUV/truck. To save my eyes I now have to adj my side mirror outward and keep my back mirror flip up even during the day(day time running light here in Canada).

Why can't mft be more responsible? They knew full well how annoying it is.

Properly adjusted side mirrors will be outward: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/how-to-adjust-your-mirrors-to-avoid-blind-spots

Tighter regulations are not the answer. There is some awesome lighting technology that's prohibited in the US (not sure about Canada): http://arstechnica.com/cars/2014/06/laserbeam-headlights-not-in-the-us/

The only time I really have an issue is in loaded pickups, where the suspension can't keep up and the headlights are pointed up (well, and improperly adjusted headlights or poorly produced HID retrofits).

I have issue with most of the new SUV/Truck especially F150, it feel like their HID located higher than my trunk, it light up my whole cabin. Acura LEDs were bad as well.

I feel many of the newer cars on the road w/ LED headlights blind the piss out of me. i noticed this alot on the new Hyundai sonatas, acura jewel eye lights and various CUV models ( cant tell which). xenon HID's have been around for a while and some of them do the same thing too, but i feel that the trend recently has gotten way worse, or my vision is getting more sensitive.

It's definitely getting worse, and I think a lot of it is inconsideration on the part's of drivers. They expect everything for them to be as easy as can be, and if you have a problem with it, you can go to hell. High beams on all the time, no blinkers, and not paying attention to changing lane conditions. They're moving, and you better watch out.

I just bought some new halogens. Got the cheapest, dimmest Sylvanias walmart had. Why? Because they're cheaper, they last longer, they don't blind other drivers, and I can see with them just fine. You're welcome.

i flipped my highs at a new RX a few weeks ago, thinking that his *significantly* brighter than other cars lights were his highs. he promptly blinded me with his actual high beams.

and i really hate dimmed mirrors.

Yep. I did that once. ONCE.

Saw a guy do that to a cop in some kind of SUV about a year ago. I was following maybe 100 yards behind him, also saw what seemed like unusually bright lights of the SUV. The cop immediately did a U turn and lit him up.

I don't flash anyone my highs now. Ever.

Glad I am not alone on this issue, very soon I will have to wear sunglasses while driving at night.

i agree. usually its due to cheap conversion kits or aftermarket bulbs and change the emission point. also, stop driving with your fogs on all the damn time.

Driving at night on 2-lane, unlit highways for hours on end on my last vacation out west was the absolute worst. Constant stream of suvs and trucks blinding the hell out of me (in a car). Wound up pointing my side mirror all the way up so the person behind wasn't blinding me and putting on sun glasses so I wasn't blinded by oncoming traffic. I found out that riding behind a big rig made it much less stressful although slower.

Factory auto-dim rear and both side mirrors. No problems with headlights, or even the setting sun.

It is the aftermarket bulbs that burn hotter and brighter... HID kits put in housings not designed for HIDs, etc...

Lately it is the 4x4 assholes (disclaimer - I own a lifted Jeep too) with either the short or long LED lightbars running around with them lit up. A Fucking 5-6 foot wide beam of harsh light coming right at you. They aren't for road use and those people can go fuck themselves.

I hate how bright many car headlights are, especially aftermarket headlights, and when idiots put a lift on a truck it makes it exponentially worse. Yeah, laws should be passed... and enforced.

How do auto dimming mirrors prevent a car from blinding you when they're coming head on or at a t-intersection? I'm constantly blinded by cars in all directions. And no it's not aftermarket lights most of the time- now it's factory LEDs and headlights.

I've been seeing a lifted ford lately that has a bright ass lightbar across the grill. I have no idea what its purpose is. Aside from looking stupid, it's lighting the same path as the headlights.

Those do look stupid. I'm sure being a total asshole has something to do with putting those on your vehicle though.

Not only Ford, Mazda is guilty as well. Then Mercedes has the tacky lit star.

lxskllr is talking about the flat-billers that turn on their offroad light bars around town. Plain stupid and irresponsible.

While illegal for on-road use, there's nothing like it offroad. The cheap eBay 28" light bar on my Landcruiser was fantastic in Baja - makes the headlights look like dollar store flashlights in comparison.

Go to the dealership and tell the salesman you want the vehicle with the brightest headlights. Tell him you have some people to teach a lesson to.

Nope nope nope.

If you live an area like I do, with nice straight roads, these things freaking SUCK. The smallest rise or dip results in you getting blinded by the oncoming laser beams. Even brand new vehicles have this problem. I just got my first vehicle with real hid's. Boy do they light up the road like nothing else. I see why folks like them.

However, I'm not at all surprised the government hasn't done crap about them. They can't figure out what a lumen is - just ask the home lighting industry on how to rate interior lightbulbs.
