Head Exploding (for me) Issue in Pale Moon 25 [Got around it!]

I got the "PaleMoon has stopped working and must close" or whatever the message is when a program crashes. Crashed repeatedly. I uninstalled 25 using CCleaner, chose to keep my settings, then downloaded 24.7.2 from the Palemoon archives ftp site ftp://ftp.palemoon.org/ using IE11 (I know, heresy). I re-installed 24.7.2 and it was like nothing ever happened.

Wow. Thanks for clarifying! Disgusting. But major props to you that you found the ARCHIVES, and so, could download 24.7.2! Cause I spent forever and could not find one source for other than 25. I am going to use yr link now, can't imagine it's one I didn't try.....and see if, hell bent on precluding any option other than 25, he did not already do away with this one. He seems determined to force everyone to run 25.

Report: Well I did try that page in last coupla days, and tried a couple of the installers! Norton warned me, I said go ahead it's fine....but when I hit the installer shortcut then on my desktop, each time it said file is corrupt. Thiis time same deal. I mean it. I have no clue....cept I am THRILLED IT WORKED FOR YOU.:thumbsup:

Welcome back Virgorising!

Here's what I did:
- Go into Edit->Preferences, General
- Select "Show my home page" beside "When Pale Moon starts"
- Change the Home Page to say "about:blank"
- Type about:config in the URL and search for "browser.newtab.url"
- Click on the Value column and change it from "about:logopage" to "about:blank"

I SAW THAT! I could not believe it!!!!! Look at him! Not to be be-atchy, but not exactly a babe magnet. Maybe all he has is PM (face), and so is all about controlling every part of it/imposing his will on all of us.

He also clearly does not get how much we are into themes and skins and all things related! OPTIONS. Configurable everything! That right there, that he don get that, I think is a deal breaker.

Now, I feel guilty I got so upset just at the logo screen I could not get rid of for two days....given so many other people are having far more serious issues with 25.

I came home earlier, opened PM, one mouse click now to get rid of the evil logo screen. Had I not worked to figure out how to get just that done, I would right now not even have PM.

Bravo! Din work for me....but I hung in and found a way. Pretty much. Tell me, are U running 32 or 64 bit I am running 64. And, wut OS R U running please? Trying to get clear on why I did not have the option in the drop down menu.

Now that I figured out how to get rid of the tacky, disgusting logoscreen with only one click per day (tho took far too much work in my case).....I am sticking with 25. For now.

Excellent!:thumbsup: Yes, as I shared, I tried it cause failed to find a source when I was looking hysterically, and see this one still works (din let it finish, of course). But, cause it ended OK, I am not sorry I couldn't find a source for 24.7.2, and so, hadda make the time to figure out out how to get around my one big hatred issue re 25: the new Logoscreen.

Bet that is now the ONLY viable source for 24.7.2....cause, none of the others work.

I am wondering if he is getting the rage/frustration generated complaints being posted all over the net, if he is taking any of it seriously.....and what crazy stuff he will do next.

They say he is headed for no compatibility with third party themes. If so, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Well I don't know what happened there with the ftp link I posted. I copied the url and that apparently requires log-in. I copied the archives ftp link from the Pale Moon site and it works. Edited my post with the correct link.

Sorry, I only just learned wut that is by doing a search. Big Pale Moon Face launched a patch update yesterday, did you get it? If so, I guess it didn't change anything re your Mediafire.

Hopefully, someone else here runs that with PM and can comment.

Betta late than nevah. Only just how went to Pale Moon site and scrolled carefully re incompatibility issues re add ons with V25.

Well, when it came in yesterday, I was hoping that when PM restarted I would not have to close the logo screen...tho, grateful that NOW, at least I can. But In that, nothing has changed.

I guess it's hopeful that Pale Moon Face is at least addressing some of the elements in 25 people went bat doody over.

Before I worked to find a way of changing the string values, after getting 25, PM opened with the hideous white logoscreen wit da blue Moon in the center....and I could not get rid of it short of destroying most of the pixels of my screen.

Now, I can close "new tab" and the repulsive white logoscreen goes away and there is the normal body of my splendid Lavafox red in the preponderance of the GUI....not just at the top.

Truly, I can live with this. One mouseclick = normal.

One more: PM now apparently thinks of the new, repulsive logoscreen as a blank screen. It is NOT, it is a PM LOGOSCREEN. Only Pale Moon Face sees it as blank.

Another edit: Cept mine now shows about:blank, and while Terie or whatever her name is, managed to get a real blank, mine still opens with the logoscreen. But now I can get rid of it and my head stopped exploding.

I do not wanna think about this anymore. But, the second Pale Moon Face feels entitled to preclude themes and add ons...I am history or rolling back.

Pale Moon was the best browser back then @ version 24 and before, every add-on, site, etc. worked exactly as it did in Firefox. Now it's a completely new crippled browser that offers nothing extra over Firefox except a nicer interface. But it's slower due to their outdated Gecko Engine, doesn't work with 80% of the add-ons, and doesn't play nice with all sites. Bye bye Jupiter Childer enjoy your crippled browser
