head crash?

Drive will no longer boot, bios says hdd not found and it makes noise but is trying to work.
Forefront troubleshooter says mechanics ok but many bad sectors and global status failed.
Any help or software to boot this until I can recover my data?.
Pls Help.
Thanks.

Not if it is mechanical failure (despite what the troubleshooter says), if the heads are unable to read the disks/platters, then external extraction with a specialized setup is needed. Talking $$ for that.
Have you looked on the manufacturers website for any help/programs? Have you tried mounting the drive in a another computer/external drive case? Have you thought about using a Linux boot cd to check the drive? Knoppix is good.
How about right clicking on My Computer icon, Properties, Manage, then Drives, and see what WinXP says about it if you can mount it in another computer. .

And this brings up a point, when people ask about hardware, the manufacturer/brand, model, computer setup would be very, very helpful. This is like one of those "My car is not running right, what should I do?" questions you hear all the time.

So it is not detected in the bios? If it is not then it tells you it's either not connected or not getting proper power. Dismount the hdd and then check the connections. And then power it up and listen to make sure you can hear the hdd spinning. If it's not then the ic circuit could be bad. If it's spinning but not being detected it could also be the ic card on the hdd not working. Get a replacement hdd ready and you can try the freezer trick.
