Sent to all 100 employees:

Subject: National Do Not Call Registry for Cel Phones

Everyone -

Very soon telemarketers will be able to call your cel phone number.
This maybe both a menace as well as a charge to you for usage.

You can block these call by calling the National Do Not Call Registry
(888-382-1222). You will need to actually call from the cel phone you
want the number registered for.

I sent him a link with the skinny, but that was almost a week ago, and he hasn't responded.

It is still good advice. I occasionally get a telemarketer because my cell is my only phone. It will happen more and more as people get more cell phones.

A) It's terrible advice

B) Your nick seems to indicate you work for a computer store, which makes me weep

C) A friend was sent that by the head of IT at HIS company too... I couldn't believe it.

At least you didn't e-mail everyone about it

I was thinking about that thread when I replied.
If so, I'd do what NotFred did and reply to everyone. I've been trying to tell everyone not to get on that list, but it's tough.

And why is that terrible advice? You like telemarketers?

Because email's like that are created & perpetuated, by imbeciles. Do you seriously think that when a directory such as this is created, a "Do not call" list will come out at the exact same time? Chr|st, it took an act of Congress to get the land line one enacted....

Plus, a simple google search that my 9 year old daughter can do, will reveal how fake this crap is.

Personally, I take great pleasure in making telemarketers extremely uncomfortable and wishing they had never called me. Think of it as free entertainment at the expense of others :)

I agree the email is incorrect in that the numbers will never be sold or given to the telemarketers, but it is still perfectly fine to put a cell number on the current do not call list. A new one just for cells will never be created. Quote from www.donotcall.gov "You can register your home or mobile phone for free." So the current list isn't land line only.
Telemarkers do have other means of getting your number besides a phone book, and with number porting, it makes it harder to keep track of what kind of phone a particular number is going to reach.
Even assuming a telemarketer will never call your cell, what makes it "terrible advice" to put the number on the list just in case?
