First, let me just say as a Wild West n00b I had no idea it was coming (though I now know where the saying "dead man's hand" comes from.)

But man, this show kicks ass! Swearengen is so fvcking evil and yet he has his own brand of charm. Calamity Jane is hilarious, as is the preacher, and the whole town just seems to be alive!!

I just started watching it this week on HBO On Demand, and so far I'm up to episode 4. Anyone else like this series?
 
Also, I started reading up on Deadwood...and let me just say its fascinating!!! The gold in the Black Hills was still being mined well into the 1960s...long after it had become scarce in California. And did you know that Deadwood operated legal bordellos up until 1980??? :Q They only shut down after the whole town shut down. Now its reopened as a small-scale casino resort/wild west museum town but the bordellos never came back.

Deadwood kicks arse. Its too bad that Wild Bill bought it so early in the show. Keith Carradine really played him well.
