In a speech Thursday in Ohio, President Barrack Hussein Obama tore Trump and the GOP a giant gaping new one:

They've been feeding their base all kinds of crazy for years, primarily for political expedience. So if Trump was running around saying I wasn't born here, they were okay with that as long as it helped them with votes. If some of these folks on talk radio talked about how I was the antichrist, that's just politics.

They stood by while this happened … And Donald Trump — as he's prone to do — he didn't build the building himself, he just slapped his name on it and took credit for it. And that's what happened in their party. All that bile, all that exaggeration and stuff not grounded in fact, started bubbling up, surfacing. They knew better but didn't say anything.

"You claim the mantle of the party of family values, and this is the guy you nominate..."

"All your crazies are belong to us." :p

That's the problem they created for themselves and our nation. The Republican party has been feeding their base lies and misinformation to keep them agitated, active and voting for decades now. Politicians have always been known to stretch the truth but the Republican party has taken it to a whole new level, all in a craven attempt to maintain power in government. As the years have passed, demonizing Democrats wasn't enough, they had to step it up so their base wouldn't trust their own government unless Republicans were elected across the board. Eventually the base had no choice but to turn on those in office because they weren't getting what they were promised from the Republicans in power.

The problem for the base was that there was no way for them to revolt as long as the party controlled the primary process. The big mistake for the Republicans was setting up the 2016 contest so that the strongest weak candidate would win the primary (which was supposed to be JEB!) and draw in the rest of the right in the general, as usual. It was the perfect setup for someone like Trump to waltz in and steal the show. All he had to do was to demonize the right people and promise to deliver what the Republican party has been promising them for decades but not delivering. A minority-majority would push him to the top in the primary and line up behind him in the general. The rest will be history... The Republican party and their supporters own this mess. The only thing Democrats had to do with it was electing Obama, which sent the Republican base over the cliff of sanity.

It should be remembered that the Republican party pushed their supporters off of that cliff.

The only way I can think would be for the ones who led them down the primrose path to destruction to admit the error of their ways. Yeah... that will never happen. Maybe for the sane people to move on from them and hope they decide to wise up and join civilization. It's always seemed to me that there's a hell of a lot less stress and a hell of a lot more happiness in your life if you accept others and work to get along together. Yes, there will always be assholes who try to wreck shit but by and large, I believe most people just want to live well, be happy and make the most of life. The haters need to remember that, some need to learn it.

I have no idea how you could defuse this bomb they have built but we have to find some way if possible.

THIS is not the "republican" party as we knew it.
This is a collection of the accurately defined "collection of deplorables" of society.
This is what happens when so called outsiders are allowed to become insiders or better known as, the sheep in wolves clothing.

Face fact.
The democratic party has been the same political party all along.
Democrats have never went thru this or suffered from this take-over by the outsiders, by that collection of deplorables.
While the republican party was busy being taken over by religious fanatics, by the right wing extremist, by the anti-gay anti-woman anti-black anti-Hispanic pro-hate deplorables of society, the democratic party spent their time opening up.
The democratic party spent their time with expanding, by evolving to welcoming gays, Hispanics, women, blacks, i.e. all the minorities defined as deplorables by the deplorables.

Now we have the remnants of what was once the republican party.
That republican party of days long past.
This new angry crowd of deplorables, that frankly have no party allegiance and never have had.
They the deplorables have successfully hijacked the republican party, or what was left of it.
The remnants of that grand old party.

They blame all their woes on the system and on all political party establishment, while actually they themselves are the only guilty for creating that system.
Guilty for the conditions they themselves have created by their lack of interest and their lack of involvement
It was their own lack of interest and lack of involvement that enabled the outsiders to take over.

They believe the establishment has let them down, while frankly it was their own that have let them down.
All the Ted Cruz's, the Sarah Palin's, the Steve King's, all the crazed outsiders that they themselves opened the door to and allowed inside to further screw things up.
Enabling a system of today totally gridlocked and totally dysfunctional.
A failed system incapable of serving their very needs.
A failed system that they themselves have enabled.

And then... along came Donald Trump.
The snake oil opportunist skilled with promoting the false promise, and skilled at charming his prey into submission.
Highly skilled indeed.
Donald Trump is no fool nor the idiot that he appears to be.
Donald Trump, possibly the most skilled opportunist to ever invade American politics. Donald Trump, who realized and smelt opportunity knocking.
Trump knew from his own experience exactly what to say and what it would take to infiltrate the remnants of that grand old party, and then entice it into submission.
Because one thing that Donald Trump realized....
There wasn't much left of that party to take over.
Seen by the opportunist, as easy pick-ins.

Donald Trump.
That perfect opportunist so patiently awaiting his chance.
His chance to own and control the very system that they the deplorables so deplore.
The only real Trump promise, to further drive that very system into the ground.
And all for the profit of Donald Trump and only for the profit of Donald Trump.
This snake oil salesman has no desire to make his victim feel better or healthier.
Or make one single life better.
What the opportunist sells cannot and will not do anything it promises to do.
It is only for personal profit from selling a nothing. Selling his bottle of empty promise.
Selling only a bottle of junk, with an larger than life eye-catching label.
An eye-catching label of harsh words, outrageous behavior, and a big fat red hat.

And should their great orange hope with the big fat red hat become leader of the free world, and should one day the deplorables actually realize what junk they have bought into, which is highly unlikely considering their history, it is hard telling whom they would then blame next for all their woes.

I truly believe with their history for lacking interest and lacking involvement, that they could or would know where to turn next or whom to blame next.
Other than returning to blame the blacks, the gays, the Hispanics, and basically back to blaming all the minorities for all their woes.
A sad sad bunch of deplorables indeed.....
Hillary hit that nail right on its head. She need not apologize for nothing. She was absolutely correct.

here's the conservative conundrum: multiple agendas with some overlap but some significant incompatibilities.

  • the neo cons/nation building wing are a micro faction who will never wield power again.
  • but they line up with the defense hawks who are transitioning to anti terrorist anti china while still parading the old red menace bogeyman(despite RU economy now being the size of Mexico's).
  • the business/money/1% wing which has traditionally been the only ones who get what they wanted.
  • the small govt/no taxes/no social programs wing
  • with its smaller belligerent brother the teaparty
  • the social issue religious wing who will typically lose when their laws hit the courts/SCOTUS
  • and the immigration/nationalist wing.

As part of the reagan coalition the social/religious wing went along with the business/hawk as long as they got paid lip service on abortion/family(anti gay) issues.
This worked until the nineties when bill clinton dem party basically went business friendly which meant that the money wing could get what it wanted from either side.
The W bush wars gave the neocons the chance they always wanted but it massively increased the size of govt/spending which led to the teaparty revolt.
Meanwhile the social religious wing has realized they arent getting anything since filibusters and SCOTUS overturns are killing their attempts at national and state level. all the while the trickledown farce and health insurance scam are hitting them in the pocketbook.

previously it was the business/defense hawk wings that were the establishment majority base that needed the social/religious minority to come along for the ride in order to win. the rise of the teaparty and the trumpists/nationalist has taken away numbers from the establishment. now there is no wing or combo of wings to force the others to get on board.

trump won the nomination because he had a plurality of extremists and the establishment was divided among all the other 16 candidates who wouldnt step down so they could coalesce around one establishment candidate.

coming out of 2016, unless trump loses in such a huge landslide that conservatives never ever even think about running a similar candidate again, there will be no movement from any of the wings towards some sort of compromise with other wings. All the while the establishment and the "tear it down" congress members will still need the other wing's voters.

[there is a book out about how the new govt transparency is killing the ability of both parties to reach any compromise. without backroom deals and party hierarchy to get individual congress members to fall in line in exchange for something on the side, it is in the individual's interest to simply obstruct and stay popular with hometown constituents in hope of being reelected.]

there would need to be a census of all republicans in order to get a real idea of who is the real base(majority). otherwise as far as anyone knows the base could be the establishment conservative orthodoxy or it could be the trumpist/teaparty/social-religious. until it is clear you will have each individual candidate going by taking the temperature of their local constituents(ie whoever mails/phones and complains the loudest/most often). that means a national candidate will be flip flopping every time they cross a state line in 2020. that rarely inspires anyone.

The Republican party is a house of cards and home to the do as I say and not as I do crowd. Right edge extremism is their calling card invoking intolerance of anyone who isn't mutually exclusive to this fringe movement. I am so happy that I exist on the left of center where critical thinking and tolerant discussion live. I find myself being attacked by the mutually exclusive crowd on a daily basis as I fail to shape up and conform to their dystopian beliefs.
