"He joined the fire department...he's where?!"

Dad finally found a purpose.

He is a rather simple man, with simple routines, simple desires, and a propensity for dissapointment the likes of which no mere mortal can even begin to digest.

But today, on this Labor Day of the year 2005, I am proud of my old man.

So many years in my youth were filled with misplaced guilt as to why he was so irressponisble. So many years passed where he leeched off the family, blew thousands on god knows what, and yet, today, it is all but a memory.

Honestly, until he called me a few minutes to gloat (He's such a ham😛) because he is well, vain, I had lost all of the respect that a son can have for his father.

Today it has been renewed 10 fold.

He joined his local Fire Department. He is now working with the Red Cross. He jsut called me from New Orleans. He will be volunteering for one month.

I love you Dad.

My parents divorced when I was little. Allthroughout my life he has been the epitome of a good man who is unfortunately irressponsible and very susceptible to con-artists.

He has basically given away everything he has, as always, and then has nothing left, so he has to leech off of us all.

Sounds like that movie...."Riding in cars with boys"...or something like that. The father is a very likeable character, but an inexcusible fvckup.

😀GROUP HUG😀

I am glad your father has chosen to do this. it takes a special person to be able to walk into a disaster zone and work in it.
