An electronics chain in my area is clearancing off their older HDTVs. Two in particular caught my eye.

Sony KDF50E2000 50" Grand WEGA rear projector LCD TV - on sale for ~1000.00

Sony KDF-42E2000 42" Grand WEGA rear projector LCD TV - on sale for ~900.00

Any reason I should not purchase one of these?

I've got ~$100 in credit due from sony, so these are more appealing than any of the other brands available.

They are 720P which isn't too bad, but you can get a non LCD projection (1080P) for less.

Thanks for the reply! So you're saying I can get a better TV for cheaper? Any suggestions on a make/model?

There's never "FOR" cheaper............ It's just.... "Cheaper" (drop the "For")
I know you kids like to abbreviate, but also add words that are'nt necessary?? Shame Shame !
I bought a tv for cheaper down the road!
I bought a tv cheaper down the road!

Whenever I was at the grocery store last week.

You kids need to make up your mind.................. Are you going to abbreviate or add words to your sentences? :)

If you want to get technical, cheaper is an adjective not an adverb; therefore, your sentence is also incorrect. In the sentence, "I bought a tv cheaper down the road!", cheaper is modifying the verb bought and not the noun tv. Adjectives cannot modify a verb. The sentence should read,"I bought a tv more cheaply down the road!".

I would actually say that the OP's sentence was more correct than yours, because the phrase "for cheaper" could be seen as a shortened version of "for a cheaper price". It's similar to saying, "I weigh more than she", as a shorter version of "I weigh more than she weighs."

And let's all throw the cow over the fence some hay :)

As for the tv's in question, I know someone with the Sony KDF-42E2000 42" Grand WEGA and it's a decent set.

Personally I feel at that size one really needs to evaluate wheter they want size for size's sake or quality. I cant stant 720 at anything over 46-50 especially if you are viewing alot of hd content. At 40 inches and below 720P looks fine to me.

Shop around, I know the 1080P projection screens are still very pricey but I would hate to get home to a tv that I would hate in six months. I did that very same thing and ended up buying another one less than six months later and ended up spending alot more than I wanted.

LCD Projection sets look better than standard projection sets and dont have many of the issues that DLP sets have.

That said, you're still dealing with bulb replacement every 2 yrs.

My buddy has the 60" or 65" (its ridiculous) monster version of those sets. It's a nice TV. But he had to convert his 2 car garage into a finished man cave in order to view it from a comfortable distance.
