walmart has a 32" HDTV for $577, a sanyo which gets very good reviews at avsforum. even has a built in tuner, as well as hdmi

here

although at that price you're starting to get close to the low end 30" LCD HDTV's. the 32" sanyo 's widescreen equivalent is 29.4 inches.

Philips outlet also has widescreen refurb crt 30 inchers for arund $350 shipped.

The PS3 isn't coming out until November. Why don't you wait until closer to that time to buy an HDTV if you're only going to use it for the PS3.

You'll probably be able to get a better quality or larger TV for about the same amount of money. Or, you could use the extra time to save more money so you have more of a budget for the TV.

I don't need more of a budget. The point is the TV has only one purpose. I don't want a great big TV, nor do I necessarily care about HD channels. I am going cheap because I don't have any reason to spend more than I need to, that widescreen 26" TV is already better than what I have and will work with what I want. I do not spend more money than I have to, I've learned from that mistake already.

My argument about waiting until you need it because it might be cheaper still stands.

Now if your current TV dead/obviously dying, then it'd make sense to upgrade it now. But if you're not going to take advantage of HD programming until the PS3 comes out, you might as well wait.

That is a good point, but the prices might also go up. You never know with the market, and with the influx of HD buyers out there soon, I don't want to take my chances. Either the market will be flooded with sellers looking to make money off every TV owner in America, or it will be flooded with buyers who need to keep up since everything is going HD soon. If it is only $400 to get the TV now, I'll do it. That's fairly cheap in my book, and I don't think they'll be getting much cheaper than that.

Yep, a regular TV is roughly 750x480 (at best) so at 1280x720p you have 50% better vertical resolution (more horizontal but it's widescreen).

At 1920x1080 you'd have 2.5 times the resolution, but like I said at least the Xbox has trouble with framerate at that res and the PS3 probably will too at least for the best games (comparable to Oblivion, which makes a 7900GTX or X1900XTX sweat).

Do you own an Xbox360? If you're having bad framerates at 1080i, it sounds like you have a faulty unit. I never have drops in framerate like you're describing on my 360. I run it at 1080i to my 50" plasma screen and none of the games I play/played have issues. Oblivion runs like butter and it's SO beautiful at 1080i.
