As you can tell, I'm a total newbie.
I have this exact combo paired with a radeon aiw 9800 pro card.
The picture on hdtv, when you get a signal, is astounding. NOW I see what the big deal is about. The pics you see at best buy, etc, are good, but the pure hdtv signal that I'm getting is eons better. I am not technical like that, but it's the best thing I've ever seen on tv. It is not subtle. Anyone with functioning eyes should be able to notice the improvement. I am assuming this is as good as the hdtv pic can get, b/c I am using dvi interface, which is as good as any other method, right?
The 2005fpw is brighter than the 2001fp, which I've had. I have the backlighting issues but only on black screen; honestly, I got zero dead pixels finally, so I"m going to keep it. I can only notice it in a pitch black room. But the contrast ratio is better than the 2001fp--i.e., in those dark scenes, everything doesn't just mush together as much as the 2001fp. This difference would be in the subtle category I'd say , but the brightness factor is not. I briefly had a samsung 213t, and that hdtv picture was NICE, but after using the 2001fp, I felt I had noticed some ghosting on fast moving scenes. Come to think of it, I think the color of the Samsung is what made the hdtv pic so nice; the 2005fpw is as bright or brighter. The only deal is that i am not sure if the hdtv pic should be filling up more of the screen--my black bars are pretty large. I don't see myself gaining that much of a larger pic when viewing hdtv vs 2001fp. This strikes me as odd b/c I also had a dell 15.4 wsxga panel, and when watching an hdtv program "lost" downloaded from internet, it left a very nearly no black bars at top and bottom. I have fiddled with ATI software, but we'll see.
I don't see how a regular LCD TV that costs alot more for less resolution could be better than this 2005fpw. The trick and it is a major trick, is getting one that has sufficient quality control.
