HDTV Wonder issue..

Okay I got an HDTV Wonder and installed it (which was a pain) and now it's working...but the video from my Cable TV has scrolling lines going through it. It is fine on my TV....I hate used 3 different coax cables, all do the same thing...and the cable that was hooked to the TV (and is fine on) is doing it too.

HDTV is not getting good enough signal but that's with the cheap antenna that is non-powered and I will be getting another one....but that's not a problem at the moment.

Any ideas on why the image is all screwy?

Please clarify this, do you have the input feed to the HDTV wonder coming from your TV output or from antenna?

Do you have a splitter prior to the HDTV Wonder connection to your cable? I'm assuming this is for the analog tuner of the card.

Neither - it's directly from my Cable TV wall jack.

Yes I have a splitter and yes it is for the analog tuner.

The splitter is needed because I need one cable going to my cable modem.

I have tried removing the splitter and going directly from the wall to the card and it does the same thing...however the signal is a little better when I did that.

You'll likely need a signal booster for good PQ then if you've eliminated the cables as the culprit, and if you are sure of the integrity of the wall jack. You could also try having the cable co check the signal to your house. I use signal boosters for both my analog cable signal and my HDTV Antenna, signal strength is one of the most, if not the most important part of the equation, all else hinges on it.

Well...it looked great on my TV...that was coming from the splitter with the old cable...doesn't make sense unless the TV has something like that built in - which I don't know.

I have several tuners both on STB and PC cards, and they don't all handle signals the same. Disconnecting the splitter gave you a better signal, that suggests that you have a weak signal to the tuner even if it looks OK on the TV.

Try it with a source other than TV like a VCR, and use the coax input with the tuner (rather than composite or s-video input) on channel 3 or 4 (whatever the VCR output is) how does it look with a local source?

What's a VCR?

Don't have one 😛

I am going to pick up some higher quality cable today...as well as a better splitter and see what happens. This splitter is just the tiny thing that the cable company gave me.

If that fails...I will try the Motorola signal booster - read good things about it and I can get it through work for cheap.

Now I understand the scenario. So I wonder if there are any more splitters in the walls, attics, etc. that may be helping with the loss of signal? Also do you have good RG6 cable with good connectors? If all of these are OK then I would maybe try an amplifier if you have a very long feed, I tried this one with a cable issue I had and it worked excellent, as most of the reviewers stated.

If there are any other splitters there is just one. I bought a high quality one and an interference filter today along with some good RG6. I also got a Radio Shack amplifier (10dB boost) if I need to try it. I didn't want to wait for shipping. Maybe I won't need it and it's just the splitter causing problems.
