HDTV - what's the scoop these days?

Have the specifications finally standardized? Does it makes sense to buy one now? Are there better choices? Any recommendations? Thanks.

I don't know much about them, other than sat. tv is HDTV compatible, a lot of cable broadcasters are, and they are really expensive. I would wait, unless you got lots of money, until they come down in price.

To me there aren't enough people broadcasting in HDTV to make it worth it. The only benefit I think there is to having an HDTV is the 16:9 aspect ratio for DVDs.
