I was at CC the other day and saw this one, however, on the box it has the QAM feature (HDTV via CableTV) part blacked out. It's odd because it's done under the shrinkwrap like it was an intended feature but either it's broken or they don't support it so they blacked it out on the box before shipping em. I don't know if all the boxes have that, but, it's the second time I've seen it.

I know with the Hauppauge PCI HVR1600 some of the early parts did support QAM , then a few didn't, and the later versions do, so, just a heads up for those who are looking into it.

The XC5000 integrated tuner definitely supports QAM. My company uses it in several products. Maybe their driver doesn't support it yet.

WinTV-HVR-950Q supports QAM, while the CC model is WinTV-HVR-950.

Antenna price is back down to 12.xx essentially 13 bucks but they charge shipping :(

Hmm, this is tempting but I've already got a Vbox USB2 tuner so I may just stick with my plan for the HDhomerun. I'm not sure that I'd want three HD channels streaming in on USB2 all at the same time! ;)

Nice deal for a brand new model.

For anybody considering a USB2 tuner - if you have any problems, try a powered USB hub. Some tuners draw just a bit too much juice when they streaming HD content. They work, but can drop out or stutter. A powered USB hub can eliminate this (if power is your problem).

How is the software on this? I have a pinnacle usb-thing similar to this and it's terrible. Was ok for what it did, but also caused massive system instability. Had to uninstall it.

it replaced a similar style antenna in the op, works much much better. I dont get any drop outs from the local pbs station now.

I bought the db4 from some people on craigslist for $30 and it worked amazingly! It is just like that one but twice the size.

I bought an HDTV tuner off of ebay for about$50 that was similar to the one in the opening post but not as fancy. It was kinda slow in the menus but I recorded the superbowl before last no problem. There were some programs that made the computer sometimes unstable but usually there was no problem. I haven't used in a year or so as I have been traveling, but I will see if I can find iit and post the brand.

They announced an HVR-950Q part with QAM support in January. Maybe that's why they pre-printed QAM on the boxes. The retail packaging is definitely new. The original 950's used to come in purplish blister packs/boxes.

The 950Q model does not seem to be available yet though. In fact, out of five QAM products announced in January, only one (1250) is available (and probably because Dell placed a huge order).
