I'm looking for a HDTV tuner card and I have no idea what is good in this area. Anyone have any opinions of places I can research at?

I have this card and it's great when the signal strength is strong. However, until a more reliable signal source is available, I would not recommend this card.

Now, what are the cons of this card?

Follow the installation instructions exactly or you will have issues. Dont assume download the latest drivers and install the card. There is a specific order to do it.
Do that and it will work fine. I use mine with Windows XP.

Does not play well with Windows MCE as its not Natively supported by the OS. But people can make them work by following the instructions.

Good point go here.

antennaweb.org

look yourself up and see how far away you are. Be sure to look at the stations marked with a D for Digital. If your within about 25miles chances are you can get those stations pretty easily. But it still depends on Hills, elevation and other things. Anything beyond that then expect to put an antenna in the attic.

Wineguard is a good maker of antenna.
TERK=JUNK.

The cable lines to my house are completely new. I'd assume that the signal strength would be adequate?

Check out the Home Theater Computers forum in AVS Forums here.

The two popular cards are the MyHD MDP-130 and the Fusion. There are threads specific to those models (MyHD and Fusion (I think)). They both handle OTA and unencrypted QAM (cable HDTV) signals.

Edit: Doh! I was beaten to it.

this card does not support QUAM, see the other recommendations if you want to get unencrypted channels over cable.

You don't know wtf you are talking about. I have this card and XP MCE 2005 and it works fine. No special installation required. Update XPMCE, install drivers, done. I have had it for about 9 months now and have had 0 problems with it.
