I've been wanting a new TV for quite some time but I couldn't afford one (and don't really need one). So I've been watching prices for years. Usually TV set prices don't drop - and when they do it is extremely slow. I was just yesterday looking at TV prices (got another Consumer Report magazine). The minimum price for 32" and smaller conventional TV's rated at least Good in that magazine hasn't changed in 3 years (well some went up $10). With 36" or larger conventional sets the prices have dropped - but very slowly. HDTV sets being newer, have shown more of a price move. But still the drops are about $100 a year for the last few years. It seems a bit silly to wait a year for the price of something to drop by 10%. There will be next to no movement on the average price from now to Christmas. If you see a sale, then pounce on it - but waiting won't really save you much at all. So wait until you see a sale - but no longer.

Buy now waiting sucks. There is always something bigger/better comming and prices do fall but isn't it nice to enjoy you nice new purchase for the next couple of months instead of saving only a couple hundred bucks?

it's not like it's going to be 50% off between now and a month from now..... Shop around, get the best deal, and make sure if they discount it tremendously, that they'll adjust the price within the next x-number of days. DVD's are the number 1 reason for HDTV right now... there's not enough channels broadcast for that alone to make the difference. AND, someone stated above about changes in the signal.... who cares - that's an issue for your cable box, not the tv.

I like playing Max Payne on my 96" HDTV screen... The surround sound is incredible in that game too... I need to upgrade my HTPC though, GTA3 runs sorta choppy... Gonna load up BF1942 DC and see how she does.

No, sh*t. Look carefully at how the actual poll question is worded. It asks "Buy now[?]", which one could answer with a yes or no answer.

If you have the money, space, and content, buy the monitor now. My area broadcasts the major networks in HD OTA, and I can get plenty of HD content through Time Warner, Dish, or DirectTV. Unfortunately, I don't watch much more than a couple hours of TV a day, and that usually includes news and reruns from 5 year old programming (which isn't in HD). I own absolutely 0 (zero) DVDs and rent only once every few months. I have no intention of starting a collection.

Aside from playing the occasional video game and watching a bit of primetime TV, I'm not sure it would be worth it for me. Eh, maybe I'll start collecting DVDs or something after I buy the set. That's what I need, another ongoing expense.:frown:
