HDTV question

I love my HDTV - got a Hitachi 51s500 and find myself watching anything in HD just because its HD. Incredible difference even compared to DVDs.

Here's my question - I have 5 HD channels through my digital box supplied by my cable company which acts as a tuner. These channels are amazing in HD (bravo, discovery, HDnet, etc). HOWEVER, when I try to watch shows that are supposedly broadcast in HD (Smallville on WB,etc) it doesn't show up as HD. These channels are normally digital (not HD) unless the shows are supposedly HD.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a reason why the shows are not being shown in HD though they are broadcast in HD?

Thanks a bunch.

same deal for me with the WB. I have Insight for cable, but they don't offer the WB in HD, so the only other option is just regular cable.

WB is available in HD, Insight just doesn't "support" it, yet.

Probably same in your area.

It sounds like your cableco isn't passing an HD signal for your local channels. Your best bet is an antenna.

or something wrong with the setup. Sometimes the locals forget to switch the HD feed. Also the HD major networks are probably on different channels.

Actually my provider is Insight too. I wonder if a OTA tuner would take care of this problem?

it would indeed, but they are gennerally a pain in the ass as all antennas are.

If your cable company is not carrying the station in HD, then you're not going to get it in HD. Most cable companies are not carrying WB and UPN in HD yet.

The inital setup can be cumbersome, but the results that it yields are well worth the effort.

I have an OTA antenna installed in my attic and my local digital/HD broadcasts are awesome.
