:p

Anyway... When they say screen size is 26," is that the diagonal?

I ask because the HDTV are not squarish and more of the 16x9 aspect. So a diagonal on an HDTV will have a smaller screen height than an older TV.

Well, I am looking at this one.

I guess if I wasn't lazy I could do the math and guestimate that they do indeed mean diagonal. But just a few years ago, the Feds made TV manufacturers be more honest with the screen size (viewable).

There are some 4:3 HDTVs out there, I have a samsung. Only problem is when watching HD broadcasts, you have to narrow the picture to get the 16x9 aspect ratio correctly.

He is correct there are 4x3 HDTV's but HDTV inherently is 16x9 widescreen. The 4x3 TV's will just have black bars on teh top and bottom like a DVD.

they may call it HD, but its not

fcc website, third paragraph down

All that article explains is the different aspect ratio's of Analog vs. HD programming. 4:3 TV's can broadcast HDTV programming, but you'll have the bars on the top and bottom of the picture.

which means it can display HD, but it is not HD

its kind of like when digital cell phones were first coming out...some manufacturers would write DIGITAL in big letters on the front of the box. The only thing digital on the phone was the display
