OKay I have a 50" Samsung DLP tv set. I been wanting to upgrade and go HDTV but VOOM was having problems and I think they are done???

Then I goto my local cable company ( Insightbb.com ), and they offer some HDTV programming but not much!! Only like a few channels and thats it.

Is there a good HDTV provider out there that has lots of channels and doesn't rip you off???

I'm not sure what you mean by "they are done"

They were just purchased by Dish Network

www.vroom.com also tells this.

for the few bucks a month i pay for hdtv it doesnt bother me that much.... but directv says they will have a total of 1500 new channels soon, so i will wait and see how many are gonna be hd.

DirectTV is launching a bunch of HD channels soon, but mostly its the network channels, hbo/cinemax/showtime, discovery, tnt, hdnet and espn so far.

Voom was doomed from the start, most of the content is just SD upconverted to HD and the programming was poor. I'm thinking in 12-18 months there will be a lot more general HD content out there.

1500? As in one thousand five hundred? Are you joking? Who the hell would have the time to browse that many channels? (This is not directed at you, KarenMarie!) That is ludicrous!

I think some people should learn where their sports or recreational areas are in their towns instead.

Rage is correct. Do not be fooled by these stupid commercials claiming the addition of 1500 HD channels. While they are right, these are basically all HD local channels in the major markets. If you happen to be in one of these markets, you'll only ever be able to see 1-6 out of the 1500 they are adding.

you will never see 1500 channels.... maybe 100 and thats direcTV's master plan. The 1500 was for mostly locals and a few national channels (been speculated ~100 national channels max)

Fios (if your in a fios area) will have much more than direcTV ever will.

To answer the posters question there isnt too much HD yet. My cable co has 10 channels total and I am with them currently. Dish has the most HD right now but DirecTV will probably be the HD leader but that is years away (launching 4 new sattelites but they are already behind schedule).
