HDTV output on Geforce 6800 series

I'll be upgrading soon from a Radeon 9700 Pro to a Geforce 6800GT, but one of the things I haven't seen much information about so far, is the HDTV output. I've read some people claiming it doesn't work at all, others claiming it works just fine but you have to set up resolutions manually, and I have no clue what's accurate.

I'm sure at least a few people here either have experience with the HDTV output of the 6800 series, or at least know more information about it. If I really do have to use PowerStrip to set up custom resolutions like I've read, that'll be somewhat disappointing but bearable. However, my main concern is how to get the signal to the TV at all. The TV I would have access to does not have a DVI input, only component. I do have the ATI DVI->Component adapter which I have used successfully with my 9700 Pro. Would it be at all possible to use this with the DVI output of the 6800GT, or would I have to find another similar adapter from nVidia?

ATI's component adaptor won't work. Forceware drivers have custom timing support, but I'm not familiar with them and haven't been able to sync 1080i to my display yet. 480p does work and the image quality is good, but it has pretty severe overscan, hopefully I'll be able to figure it out. I'm using VGA to connect with my display, you'll need a transcoder (and I don't think NVidia makes one) or wait untill somebody puts out a model with YPbPr output for the 6800 series. Leadtek's 5950ultra had it, and some personal cinema 56/5700 cards have it, so perhaps not too long.

You'll have to pick up a VGA to Component transcoder, the Audio Authority one worked great for me on my Toshiba HD RPTV until I bought a projector with VGA inputs for my HTPC.

Wow....that's definitely more money than I was hoping to (or even willing to) spend. Are there no other options?
