HDTV output and Vista??

So I have an HTPC and I wanted to upgrade it to Vista (which has been working fine on my gaming rig). But, here's where I run into troubles:

With an ATi card (I tried it with my X1800XT on my gaming rig and an X1300 Pro on my HTPC) I can get it to display a TV output after I force TV detection, but it will only display standard def resolutions (up to 1024x768). Is there something I'm missing in CCC?
driver was the Apr. 18, 2007 release

With an nVidia card (and a geforce 6600 vanilla), whenever I check the "Force TV detection" nothing happens. No display is added to my properties and nothing in the dropdown menu. After I restart the computer the checkbox becomes unchecked. This is actually not a Vista specific problem. I think it may have something to do with with the new nvidia control center (whatever they call it). When I try to use the newest driver in XP MCE 2005 the only way to force tv detection is to use classic mode instead of the new mode (which is the only available mode in Vista). Even when I get it to force TV detection, support is really flaky, so I stepped back to a really old driver (72.14)
ForceWare Release 158
Version: 158.18
Release Date: April 17, 2007

Would a new card do the trick? I am willing to upgrade hardware if it will most likely work. I was looking at something with HDCP (definite) and HDMI output (not necessary), maybe an X1650, X19x0pro or GT, 7600 or 8(5/6)00. I only want to spend maybe $150 or so, less if I can and more if it would be worth it.

Athlon64 X2 4400+
Foxconn NF4K8MC-EKRS nforce 4 vanilla
Creative SB Audigy
ATI Theatre 550Pro
and either geforce 6600 vanilla or Radeon X1300 Pro (I don't care which, as long as it works)

Just use an adapter to "convert" your connection to HDMI if you need to.

What cable are you using to connect it to your tv? Mine works fine with a dvi to hdmi cable. Might want to try that if you already haven't.

I havent had any problems outputting to my hdtv. I am using the component out on a x1650pro.

There is a setting somewhere in CCC to force hdtv resolutions. I don't know off the top of my head what menu its under. I will check when I get home.

I'm actually using componant output because that's all my A/V switcher is capable of currently. The reason I'm looking at getting a card with HDMI is so I can "futureproof" my machine a little better and hopefully put off the next upgrade for longer than my 6600 lasted. So, for right now, I still need something that will do componant output.

What about the DVI to Componant adapters? Do those work?

I've had my X1900XT hooked up to my HDTV with component cables and it worked beautifully. IIRC, the video card outputs an RGB component signal and not Y'PbPr.

I just got Vista yesterday and I'm waiting for a board RMA before I install, so not totally sure but could it be an HDCP issue? As in Vista content itself requires HDCP support?

Why do you want DVI to component... just get DVI to HDMI.... HDMI is comparative to DVI with built-in sound.

Also, there is no HDCP requirement in Vista.

Are you runnng Vista? and what were the settings used in CCC? As I said before, I was using componant output from my 6600 to my HDTV under XP with an old driver (72.14) and I'm looking to get that to work under Vista with the newest driver release (or an older Vista driver, but that'sthe problem). I would also be happy using my X1300 Pro if it would do the trick, I have one in another box and I can swap it for the 6600 no problem (or buy a new card, as I said).

becuase right now my A/V switcher will not handle DVI or HDMI input, only componant. So I'm looking for something that will do both componant (for right now) and HDMI (for later).

It worked under XP and Vista. In CCC, if the TV shows up at all select it and under HDTV Settings make sure to select all the resolutions the TV supports.
