If im going to buy a new set in the next 2-3 months what would you recommend??

I mean what am i going to look in regards to speding for a both. I want at least a 50in.

Projector might be easier to take with me. Whats the upside and downside of each?

I currently own this
36" Flat nonHD PANNY TAU

Ask yourself if you are willing to watch a projector when you are watching just regular TV, or if you are going to watch the Tau for regular tube watching. If you are, then projector wins!

Oh no, I've been summoned 😛

First of all.... do you have a light controlled room or can you make it so it can be light controlled?

If you can get your room very dark, then a projector makes a lot of sense. If your room has a lot of windows that can't be covered up, you will run into problems with front projection.

A projector is the best way to get a huge image on a budget imo.

Check out AVSforum and projectorcentral for a lot of great info on projectors.

What's your budget?

for a PJ you'll need to be able to control the lighting in the room at all times, unless you can do that I'd advise you to stay away from them. For a good HD PJ you can expect to pay close to $2000 ie: Panny AE700 or the new BenQ forgot the model number.

I'm getting the panasonic AE700 this summer. It's gonna be so fricken sweet to have a 97" screen. Lord watching all those movies is gonna be this SHIAT!

I think HD on a $1500 budget is going to be tough for a projector (especially if you have to get a screen too)

I have the projector rsd mentioned and I like it a lot. I got it in Feb for $999 including a 76" screen.

It's only EDTV but it has a great scaler/deinterlacer, so SD and HD stuff will also look very good on it.

Ahh! Why would you lose your Tau! I just got a 27" flat CRT Tau, the sucker is awesome! 🙂

Well i guess a Projection tv would be better. I want to get something widescreen and in HD for when the xb360 comes out. I also have a nice stereo consisting of
Kenwood vr -507
Song SAWM-40
JBL S-310 fronts
JBL N-26 backs
N CENTER

Might get a new reciever and but my n24's as 6.1 but thats a different story. I just an looking for a good hd widescreen that will last me. I mean 47" is big enough but bigger would be welcome 🙂

Yeah I concur...demo the 4805, if you can live with "EDTV" then I'd say get a refurb 4805, and you can get a pull down screen for ~200-250 (I got a 92" one from Sparco for like $225 which was the cheapest I saw). Save the other $500 for other upgrades or until the projectors get cheaper.

Also in general about projector vs tv besides light control is, to watch on a projector can be a little more involved than flipping on a tv. The projectors have limited bulb life obviously and if you tend to watch tv for short periods of time it may not be ideal to be turning it off and on as it would increase the chance of blowing the bulb. Also think about how you would connect multiple devices. With the infocus you can connect a component and a dvi(or hdmi) devices at the same time but there is only one of each connection. Personally I use a 4-2 component matrix switchbox so I run everything through that (or if you have a receiver that does similar).

for $1500 you should try to get either the 1080P Westinghouse or BenQ, I think there was a hot deal thread where BestBuy was selling it for around your budget.

Aren't those 30-37" roughly? Depends what you want, the size of your room imho. I sit 10-11' back of a 92" screen in a 12.5x12.5' living room, and its AWESOME. I also have in the same room a 30" LCD HDTV and it's nice for daily use, but frankly the projector is at another level.

As yoyojello-man said, you have to be able to block a lot of light in order to use front-projection.

I have windows, so I have to stick with my CRT. I have a 32" Zenith, and that's plenty for me. 😕

32" thats it

My grandma complains about only having a 32". j/k, I'm still living with a 27" from grade school. I mean to buy a big screen or a projector but I need the proper room for it yet.
