HDTV Noob needs help

I bought an HDTV that has a built in HD tuner. I plugged it in and figured I would just get my normal standard cable I have always had. It started scanning channels and it found 200+ digital channels. Of those, a few of them are HD versions of local channels as indicated by the TV saying HD720p or HD1080i as the mode.

I called Comcast and ordered digital service with HD and an HD box with HDMI.

Here are my questions:
Should I be getting these HD channels right now?

Do I really need this cable box even though the TV seems to get the channels on its own?

Getting a cable box with HDMI allows me to control the cable box through the TV so I won't need multiple remotes right?

Do cable boxes come with HDMI cables or should I order one in anticipation of receiving my box?

Are the channels actualy IN HD? We could still get HD channels when we first got our TV and still had our old Comcast box, though when we got the new box, everything looked 8000 times better on the HD channels.

It's not uncommon for cable providers to leave the HD locals unencrypted - assuming your TV has a QAM tuner, that's how it's supposed to work. You'll still need the cable box for the pay channels though (which are almost always encrypted).

The TV claims they are and they look more defined than the standard version of the channel. I don't currently have any box though. It is just the TV's tuner.

If they haven't delivered yet you might consider getting the version with DVR, it's only $5 extra a month in most areas and records HD. It's 2-tuner so you can also watch a different channel at the same time.

You might not need a cable box for local & basic channel HD but for movie channels you will.

Locals in HD are typically provided with no encryption, a TV with a QAM tuner should be able to pick them up without a box.
