In the coming months there's a prospect of me not being dead poor and I might even get on this HDTV thing, but I barely know anything about home theater stuffs, I've been a PC-only guy for a long time. I don't even own a topset DVD player except for the one in the living room which only parents/roommates use, and that's only on regular old TVs. I do everything on my PC. I also don't own any consoles, but I'm definitely into getting a Wii (which is only 480p, right?)

I used to have a big non-HTDV that I used with S-Video out to watch movies or play certain games, but nothing else hooked up to it. This is probalby what I'll do with a new TV--same stuff, just output from a PC. Are there any good deals on HDTVs that are 20-30"? Resolution? Of course I'll need DVI or HDMI. I also don't care for LCDs, way out of my price range. I'm looking at $600ish.

Olevia 26" HDTV LCD's can be had for around that. There are quite a bit of CRT HDTV's like that for less than $500. Use pricegrabber and just sort by the specs you want (price, size, hdtv). Or, keep and eye out at the fatwallet or slickdeals. net forums. People are always posting deals that can be had, and LCD TV's usually pop up.

Good luck.

If I were you, I would think hard and long about whether a purchase like this was necessary (or else you might be going back to "dead poor" status).

Nice suggestions, I'll definitely keep an eye out on these sites. It's also worth noting that I don't watch TV at all--just video content off of my PC, which I intend to output via DVI/HDMI adapter. Also glad to see that CRT TVs are that cheap; I didn't mention that I don't like LCDs on a quality standpoint :) and the space that a CRT takes up is no matter to me.

Well it's difficult to watch movies or play games in my room with more than one other person since right now the only display I have in here is my computer's 19" CRT. It doesn't work with more than myself since it faces the computer chair and would be a hassle to move around to my bed (where my old TV faced) or to any other alternate seating.

Also, as mentioned above, I want to play console games on it (Wiiiiiii!). Since I do a lot of console emulation on my PC, it'll be good for this as well when with more than one person or when I don't feel like sitting in an office chair :p.

TV-Out blows ****** on regular TVs, but with an HDTV I'll at least be able to read text and see what I'm clicking.
