HDTV keeps having loss of audio

It seems as though this only happens when I'm watching a high definition channel but I cannot confirm that until I do some further investigating. However, when I'm watching TV, about every 4-5 minutes, the audio will cut completely out. The video is not affected whatsoever. Just dead silence for about 3-5 seconds and then it comes back on.

I'm leaning towards it not being the HD/DVR box that my cable company provided me with. I recently had to swap it out because of another problem but the loss of audio exists on the new box just as it did with the other one.

If there are no problems with the video, can I rule out a signal problem? What about settings on the TV that may create a confliction with the type of audio signal being broadcast via HDTV? Also, my HD/DVR box is connected via component cables (the 5 line kind) and I am also using a HDMI (on DVR) to DVI (on TV) connection. Could there be a conflict from using both component and DVI/HDMI? Or could it be that I'm connecting HDMI to DVI?

That is something that commonly occurs when Over The Air Signals are not strong enough to fully transmit. So it could be a similar signal problem with your cable line or dvr box.

Why are you connecting with both component and DVI? You only need one video connection. Have you tried just using the component cables?

Most likely the channel is having issues.

HD is still in the growing pains stages, CBS here in Pittsburgh is horrible. Audio dropouts are VERY common.

Is it the Comcast HD-DVR box by Motorola?

If so, it's probably a bad box.

The firmware they use on those things is quite buggy. Also, it sometimes has a problem syncronizing the audio and video when both HDMI and component are being used.

Just switch it out and you should be fine...
