I found myself using the original all the time, but lately I've wished it had a few more features. 16:10 aspect ratio displays, pixel density (for text size comparison, etc.), & a few other things.

Test it out, see if you like it, any suggestions/comments/bug reports are welcome.

One thing I already know, the source images will be changed - I'll find a wide image & crop the edges rather than cropping the top/bottom like I did now. So those will be changed to more accurately reflect the various aspect ratios once I find a good source image.

Not sure I follow. A 16:9 show more of the picture than a 4:3. Your images are the same pic, just larger or smaller versions. Is that what you are going to fix?

I started with a 4:3 image & cropped vertically rather than starting with 2.35 & cropping horizontally.

It was a temporary solution, I'll have better samples in sometime soon.

Not sure what it'd be used for. What's the advantages of knowing that info? Apparently everyone so far loves it, but I'm confused. :(

Nice, the only thing i might do is lock the aspect ratio for when you manually type in the screen resolution.

For instance, you say:

24"
16:10
1920

and the program automatically fills in the "1200"
and vice-versa if you only know the width for example.

Or, if you only know the resolution but don't wanna calculate the aspect ratio.

So basically in the bottom 3 entries, if you type in 2 of them, the 3rd is defined.

The problem with that is there are too many displays that don't use square pixels. Many plasma displays for example have rectangular pixels (like older CRTs) & their pixel dimensions do not match their aspect ratio.

I like it.

Hopefully 42" 1080p's will be around $1500 in early 2006?

I'll move to one as my main computer monitor if that comes true ;)

I would be surprised if it doesn't happen within a year, 37" 1080P is already ~$1800 & prices are dropping like crazy.

sort of an OT quesiton, i recently bought the HDTV wonder for my media center pc, i get all the OTA channels, in a lot of programs i see vertical gray bars at the side (besides the horizontal ones at the bottom). this happens for some programs, for other programs i dont see the vertical bars. i have a 19" lcd with a native res of 1280x1024

The vertical sidebars are probably upconverted 4:3 SD programs that are placed in a 16:9 broadcast...kinda like letterboxing, except vertically.

I hadn't realized that my 129" theater room screen was at least 4 times as big as my 57" Sony. Both 16x9, of course. Nice.
