HDTV Experts: Will this work?

Hey folks.

I have a quick HDTV question. My parents own a Hitachi 23UDX10S telvision.

We are interested in getting HDTV over cable in our area, but I dont know what I need to purchase to do this.

The set-top-box that Motorola provides is the "5100".

Can we just use the set-top-box or do we need to buy some sort of decoder also?

Thanks,

I believe the 5100 is the box provided by my local company (which I decided to tell to stick it) but that should be all you need for HDTV service over cable.

Yep. All you need is a TV that can display 1080i and has component inputs... and you have that. You're set 🙂

You all do realize that 16:9 HDTV material is going to be letterboxed on that 4:3 TV, right?

All you need is a set top box
it is best to get it from the cable company
The one you describe is a QAM decoder
