OK, this question has been asked to death but I'm not seeing a good answer, maybe I didnt do search enough

I have ATI AIW Radeon 7500, it has DVI out, I have 32" Sony Wega HDTV with HDTV DVI input, but, sony manual says its not compatible with PC graphics DVI signal, before I fry anything, has anyone tried this before? I'd hate to get a $50 adapter from ATI if I can do DVI.

I dont need it on super hires, I just want to know if I can not waste that DVI input on the TV since I have no plans to get HDTV receiver box.

thanks for any help!

The electrical signal certainly is compatible, but most probably the timing isn't. You need to find out the timing requirement, and then convince the graphics card's driver to produce it.
This is DIY-able in Linux, but in Windows, you're stuck to what the makers of the graphics card offer.

I don't think it would hurt. Worst case it would just look funky. I'd try it and see. You may have to play around with your resolution and frequency for that output.

You can use PowerStrip to force custom resolution and custom timings to create the HD signal.
