I am looking at two HDTVs. One is a 42" DLP and the other is a 52" LCD Projection. The 52" is a little more expensive (about $200), but I dont really need anything bigger than 42".

So what has better picture quality? Which has cheaper bulbs? Which has better off angle viewing? Is one more likely to get burn-in than the other (I will be using it for my XBox360).

I have been looking for years and I think i'm settled on dlp, but i'm no expert by any means. I would also like to know. I would hold off for a new SED if I knew the price would be reasonable.

Which has cheaper bulbs? They are probably similar, but I'm really not sure.
Which has better off angle viewing? Again, similar.
Is one more likely to get burn-in than the other (I will be using it for my XBox360). Neither are known for burn-in, so this is a non-issue.

SED panels have been delayed until the end of 2007. You will be waiting a while.

edit: before you ask.

So what has better picture quality? The dlp should have better picture quality due to better contrast ratios. But dlp suffers from the rainbow effect but not everyone can see that and the effect is less than it used to be.

Which has cheaper bulbs? Beats me. DLP should use a lower wattage bulb since it doesn't use polarizes which have a 50% max theoretical efficiency.

Which has better off angle viewing? The differences in this regard are nullified when either technology is used in a projector I believe. But different screens will have diff viewing angles.

Is one more likely to get burn-in than the other - The dlp will get less burnin. I know people say that LCDs don't get burnin and I've read as much many times before but all those people are WRONG. I've seen LCD burnin first hand. It happens.

I have a CRT projection TV myself. Image quality is not as good but it's a lot cheaper. Of your 2 choices, I would definitely get the DLP

If you don't mind the wait I would wait until SED panels have been out and the kinks are worked out.

AFAIK the new dlp sets will be out in a month or two.

Edit: I wish intel didn't scrap its TV processor

When I was shopping for and HDTV a few months ago I had narrowed it down to the Samsung 42" DLP and the Sony KDF-E42A10 (LCD rear projection). I was leaning towards the DLP, but compared the 2 models in 8 different stores and the Sony looked better in all of them. So I went LCD.
